This afternoon after doing a bunch of running around today I was on my patio planting plants and I saw a fire truck come into the apartment complex. Then I saw and heard 3 boys walking through the parking lot from the back side of the complex saying something about a baby falling down stairs. So I went on planting plants. A couple phone calls from Amanda (she was at Lowes) I decide to walk down and see what was going on.
I rounded the corner to a building a few building over and There were many firemen and EMTs on the side walk working on a baby. She was 2 years old and she was so lifeless. She had fallen out of a third story window on to a second story balcony below the window. Her 4 year old brother fell out of the same window as she did just after her. He landed on his feet/. She landed on her head and neck. She was flown to OHSU hospital and the boy was taken by ambulance.
There are conflicting news reports but we had news birds flying in the sky above us for a while after the accident.
I still can't stop seeing the poor lifeless baby laying on the sidewalk and her on the back board being lifted up to the gurney.
This is defiantly an emotional day.

(((Dori, I'm so sorry.))) I'll be praying for them and you.
I know how you feel--I was waiting in the ER at a huge university hospital, and a guy came running in with a lifeless young boy. It was a sad story, there was abuse involved.
It did take a while for that image to go away. Trying not to think about is like trying not to think about a pink elephant on rollerskaters now that I've mentioned that...
Cat videos have been scientifically proven to help lighten your mood. It's a good way to get your mind off what you saw. I love the YouTube channel CatSoup--it's a cat that critiques dumb televisions shows.

Hoping she is ok.
And I hope you can forget it. I still remember my five-year old self sitting in an ER waiting room when my older sister was hit by a car. She ended up just bruised. What I remember about the trip was this young woman with dark hair walking in covered in blood and white towels. I overheard something about her walking through a patio door. 45 years later it is still clear in my memory.

I have many images I can't forget, from working in accident and emergency when I was a 19 year old student nurse. Somehow when its a child, it is so much worse.

One of my nightmares - I am paranoid about my kids leaning out and falling. We have things on our window that don't allow them to open more than 4" and we usually open them only from the top.
I hope they are OK and that medical care got to them quickly enough to help.

When my son was in early intervention there was another child we met who was on a trach and paralyzed due to a similar fall. They had a changing table up against the window, which was latched. The mom didn't think the baby could roll yet, and she definitely didn't know that the MIL had opened the window to air out the room, then closed it, but not latched it because she couldn't reach the latching mechanism. The baby decided to be precocious and rolled hard enough to go right out the window, 2 stories down to the parking lot below. I can't even imagine how horrified all involved were.
Accidents like those are so very sad, and while you'd love to believe that they could be foreseen and prevented, there just are situations and places where a young child can get into serious trouble.
