Sometimes I hit it by accident, other times I want to remember who someone is If there's a long or controversial thread. I don't really care who knows it, either! Ha!
Although I've never gotten one of those emails. Is it a tapatalk thing? I don't use that, I just use the browser on my phone.

My fingers take me all kinds of places that I don't plan to go when I am on my iPad or iPhone. LOL! I imagine that I have been the subject of some email notifications. Happens on FB too...and with stupid ads on pages....

OMG I think a lot of us stopped breathing for a bit! Thank God it is not FB I realised linkedin did that AFTER I checked up on an old boyfriend ETA-- I have looked up people here when there was a thread I wanted to find and remembered the name of poster so it is not always going to be a stalker type thing

I get notifications that someone is following or looking at my profile but am not sure why someone would want to follow me?

Hi, PureSteph 1 New View You're popular on 2Peas Refugees! Your profile is piquing the interest of 2Peas Refugees members on Tapatalk! Remember--keeping your profile up-to-date and posting frequently will encourage more views. Update Profile That's hilarious. They assume you want to encourage more views, huh? Well keep up those posts!

So I was curious and looked in the notifications section, and I don't see anything about notifying when someone looks at a profile. Is it just an automatic thing?

I wouldn't mind if you thought I was interesting enough to stalk.

I don't really care who knows it, either! Ha! I agree. I didn't know it generated a notification...but that's because I have all my notifications turned off. Not sure what the big deal is though. I look at profiles from time to time, mostly to see where someone is from, location only shows up under your user name if you specifically select it, so sometimes I am about to answer something and I realise it will make a difference depending on where the person lives, so I'll look to see if they have added their location to their profile and if they are Aussie, from the UK, USA etc. Sometimes I'll look because I want to find a previous thread and I might remember someone who posted on it but not remember the name of the thread. There's all sorts of legitimate reasons to look in order to find/remember something that was posted here that have absolutely nothing to do with "stalking" of an individual. It's not like anyone is clueless enough to post their real name and address in their profile anyway.

I'm with Pjaye--I've looked up peas when I'm trying to lookup a thread and can't remember the name of the thread but remember that a certain poster posted it or posted on it.
One recent example was that Spanish revival home in Birmingham, AL, that was completely chock full of kitschy items, crosses, furniture, and cutesy stuff. The woman that owned it was on The Bachelor several years ago or something like that. I had a friend who would get a kick out of the photos, so I tried searching for the thread and couldn't find it--so I found it by looking up peas that I remember posted on the thread.
I think to get the emails that someone has checked your profile, you have to choose to be emailed.

I've looked on my profile and EDIT profile and can't see anywhere to be notified if someone is looking at your profile. I discovered GROUPS and FRIENDS and BADGES that I previously didn't know about, but nothing on someone looking at your profile.

Yeah, but where? I've looked on my profile and EDIT profile and can't see anywhere to be notified if someone is looking at your profile. You're on the right track, once you are in 'edit profile' then there is another series of tabs on the right side....one of those is "notifications" click on that and you'll get a list of what you want to be notified of and if you get an email for it or not.

That's where I looked. The things I see to be notified about, are: When new threads are created new posts someone likes your post someone quotes your post someone tags you someone follows you someone requests to join a group you lead someone joins a group you lead someone adds you to their group when you're involved in badge related activities a bookmarked thread is updated a thread you participated in is updated when you get a private message get a staff message and when staff sends a mass email to all members But nothing about looking at your profile.

But nothing about looking at your profile. Ah, I misread what you meant, I thought you couldn't find that list...but I didn't actually look what was on that list! You are right, I don't see anything about looking at profiles either. Interesting. There's a profile thing on another tab, about who can look at your profile - anyone or other members only, maybe it's somehow linked to that? But that's just speculation on my part.

Similarly, this is how I accidentally make new friends on Facebook. I'm always like WHO accepted my request? I didn't make any requests! I then don't want to defriend them after supposedly befriending them, so I play it cool. So far, they've all been friends of friends, but now I obsessively check to make sure I haven't accidentally sent a request to a random person as I scroll. I've accidentally checked out profiles here too, but I didn't know it sent notifications. My dog bumped my arm last night while I was on my phone, causing me to friend request a stranger whose name was listed on the 'people you may know' in my feed. Oops! Fyi, a friend told me that on FB, the other party you are viewing will show your profile as a suggested friend to add so in a way, they can tell who has been viewing their info. But that's not always the case - there are so many people listed under "people you may know" that I would bet that very few have actually viewed my FB profile. I don't know. According to this, you can tell: www.science20.com/alchemist/blog/who_stalking_you_facebook_who_your_biggest_fan_updated_methods-78821

Yeah, I'm still not buying it as 100% accurate. For example, there's no way that the CEO of Studio Calico is checking out my FB profile, but she's listed as one of the first people on my "People You May Know" list. I do know that I have a mutual friend with her plus, I like the Studio Calico FB page along with many other scrapbooking-related FB pages. That seems like a more likely explanation on how FB is trying to make the connection. Plus, that article is almost five years old and the author even recognizes that the methods do change regularly.

Are you on Instagram? If you like a photo by someone or follow them on Instagram they will show up under the people you may know section.

I will look at someone's profile if someone's new or hasn't posted much, sometimes looking for a certain older topic and the only way I can find it is because I can remember who was participating, looking for a website or Etsy link because of a certain post in a thread, looking for someone that's been missing, or I notice a certain attitude (good or bad) and want to see if that's their normal MO or a one off, lots of reasons to click on a profile. Nothing wrong with it at all. It isn't stalking, the ability is put their for a reason. I didn't know you could set it up to be notified, where is that option? I realized later after I posted this, that I also OFTEN check people's profile looking for inspiration in choosing a cake when doing the Birthday thread. Almost a daily occurrence. So, is anyone going to fill us in on how you get those alerts? peano, cmhs , StephDRebel, cyndijane , iamkristinl16 , M in Carolina?

Not FB, here. I have all emails from this place turned off so I never get notifications. Oh thank the Lord above!! Not that I'm the stalker my posts are letting on to but I do like to keep an eye on a certain young adult family friend who is going through some issues and has disconnected with pretty much everyone. And I may pull up my ex every once in a while to remind myself how lucky I am that I have DH! I thought she was meaning FB at first, too. Every time my daughter has a date with someone I don't know, I stalk their FB page. I have stalked many a FB page in the last several years while my daughter has been in college. It definitely would be embarrassing to have my name pop up because it would be easy enough to figure I was her mother.

Haha! I didn't know that sent a notification! People probably think I am stalking them too- I scroll through on my phone a lot and always accidentally hit people's names. I promise I am not stalking either! i did it 3x to one refupea! So she will really think in a stalker. I always hit someone while I'm scrolling.

I don't buy the "people you may know" is generated by them looking at your profile or vice versa. Someone I used to work for is the CEO of a large company. He is not checking out my Facebook. He pops up because we have FB friends in common. FB is not stupid enough to out stalkers. They'd lose their core customer.
