Sometimes when people make a comment I like to see what state (or country) people live in. We all have such varying experiences that it helps to see where people live.

I will look at someone's profile if someone's new or hasn't posted much, sometimes looking for a certain older topic and the only way I can find it is because I can remember who was participating, looking for a website or Etsy link because of a certain post in a thread, looking for someone that's been missing, or I notice a certain attitude (good or bad) and want to see if that's their normal MO or a one off, lots of reasons to click on a profile. Nothing wrong with it at all. It isn't stalking, the ability is put their for a reason. I didn't know you could set it up to be notified, where is that option? I realized later after I posted this, that I also OFTEN check people's profile looking for inspiration in choosing a cake when doing the Birthday thread. Almost a daily occurrence. So, is anyone going to fill us in on how you get those alerts? peano, cmhs , StephDRebel, cyndijane , iamkristinl16 , M in Carolina? I have NO idea. I cant figure out how to get rid if them.

I'm sure my fat scrolling fingers have accidentally stalked many people on here. My thumb also clicks on things inadvertently when I'm reading on here and fall asleep!

I accidentally did it a couple of times today. My fingers don't always go where I want them to.

I did just turn off the emails for thread replies, etc. Those emails have been driving me nuts, but I keep forgetting to turn them off. Why don't we do a little experiment? Look at my profile, and I'll see if I get notified. Tag me, and then I'll turn the notifications back on and see if I get notified. My guess is that it's just included with the notification emails and not something you can control individually. I'm just curious if I'll still get notified if I've turned the email notifications off...

I sometimes strike out on the tagging and your peaname is long/ has spaces, so I am quoting you instead. I will be stalking your profile as soon as I post this

Oh thank the Lord above!! Not that I'm the stalker my posts are letting on to but I do like to keep an eye on a certain young adult family friend who is going through some issues and has disconnected with pretty much everyone. And I may pull up my ex every once in a while to remind myself how lucky I am that I have DH! Fyi, a friend told me that on FB, the other party you are viewing will show your profile as a suggested friend to add so in a way, they can tell who has been viewing their info. I'm pretty sure that is true. I once checked out someone's FB and within hours got a friend request from them. I think they use other methods for suggesting friends as well, so hopefully the person didn't pick up that I was stalking them.

I don't buy the "people you may know" is generated by them looking at your profile or vice versa. Someone I used to work for is the CEO of a large company. He is not checking out my Facebook. He pops up because we have FB friends in common. FB is not stupid enough to out stalkers. They'd lose their core customer. I buy it but I don't think it is the only way they come up with suggestions. I spent some time checking out and rechecking out the profile, pics, posts etc of someone I knew 20+ years ago one boring evening. Literally, within hours I receieved a friend request from that person. I really doubt we both randomly decided to look up each other at the exact same time. Mor likely, they received my name as a suggestion and thought, "sure, why not?". I declined. Didn't want to actually reconnect.

look hereHonestly, I don't remember setting any of these up, and lately my notifications have changed. I used to get a notification every time a thread was updated but recently I don't any more. And I haven't changed anything because I was too lazy to try to figure out how to do it.
