I'm having a scope on Monday morning and was supposed to eat a soft diet, no fiber, no fresh veggies, etc. Friday and Saturday. Well, I wasn't thinking and I had a big bowl of popcorn last night. Oops! Is this going to cause an issue with me having my scope Monday morning? I really don't want to go through drinking 2 bottles of magnesium citrate (and it's lovely after effects!) if I completely screwed up and the scope will be a no go! So tell me, is it that big of a deal that I ate popcorn last night? I almost ate salsa and chips this afternoon. Geesh! I'm failing all over the place.

I don't really know--but with the stuff I have had to drink as the prep, all of that should cleanse you.

You'll be fine. Just follow the directions and drinks lots of water. It will all come out.
I've had 8 colonoscopies and never changed my diet before doing the prep and I've never had a problem.

I'm thinking you're okay. You're going to get cleaned out tomorrow. I wasn't that careful with my diet in the days leading up. Fasted and did the prep the day before. Totally okay.

Thank you! I'm not too worried about the prep part tomorrow, really, I just didn't want to go through it and then get in there Monday morning for the doctor to say, "Oh, you ate popcorn Friday night. We'll have to reschedule." Like I said, doing the prep isn't really THAT big of a deal, I just don't particularly want to do it twice in the same month.

This is from my instruction sheet
THREE DAYS PRIOR TO YOUR PROCEDURE: Begin a low fiber diet (no popcorn, seeds, nuts or raw fruits and vegetables) and stop all fiber supplements such as-Metamucil, Citrucel, Benefiber.

I suspect - though I could be wrong - that it's more to make sure you're not a step beyond the miserable that the prep will make you. (TMI) I personally think popcorn works on me about as well as the liquid prep stuff...so I can only imagine that the two together will not be fun.

Usually patients have a liquid diet the night before. We advise avoiding red and purple juices, jellos and the like, to avoid anything in the colon that could resemble blood.
The main idea for the diet restriction is to keep colon cleaned out for better visualization during the procedure.

To be honest most folks I know stay on their regular diet till the day before when they go on clear liquids. I wouldn't be too concerned unless there was a different reason for the soft no fiber diet 3 days before.

Yes, I think the suggested diet is to make the cleanse a little easier on the person. You should be fine.

I had one on a monday. There were no restrictions on what to eat on Friday. Starting Saturday morning breakfast he wanted me on a diet of soft, low fiber foods. Then clear juice (nothing with red food coloring in it), clear broths and the prep for all of Sunday. Nothing but water to drink on monday of the test. Then I could have whatever I wanted afterward.

When I arrived for mine the doc asked when was my last bowel movement and what color was it. He didn't ask about when I had last eaten. I was able to tell him about 30 minutes prior to the appointment and it was clear (which was weird)

I am also having a colonoscopy on Monday, so today is going to really be a crappy day. In all of my instructions there was nothing about what to eat prior to prep day, but a ton of instructions for today. Oh no I Attended a party yesterday so I may be in big trouble.

When I did mine, there were no instructions about what to eat in the days prior to starting the prep. Just the day before the scope. I ate like I normally did with no issues.

Seeds can affect viewing -- get stuck on the camera. I would think that it would be the same with popcorn (like the stuff that get wedged in your gums).
At this point I'd just go and have it done. It's not like the probability of a good viewing is low. It's a small chance.
Good luck.

Here's a funny for you while you prep: A nurse friend of mine used to work with patients having colonoscopies. She said one day they had a patient who had apparently done everything right, everything was totally clear on the scope -- except for the blueberry. Yep, totally cleaned out colon, except for this lone blueberry, just sitting there, being a blueberry. Not even chewed up or anything. The patient claimed to not even like blueberries, but a blueberry it was. Even the doctor couldn't figured out how it survived it's journey through the digestive system, and then the prep!
