I've had Sirius since we bought our car in 2013. I get so annoyed at the rate they want to charge you to renew! I cancelled the last time I was due for renewal and after multiple attempts of them asking me to renew I finally did at $19.99 for 5 months. It was almost time to renew again (at a much higher rate) so I called them and told them I would be cancelling if they couldn't leave my rate the same. The rep offered to give me a deal which was much higher than what I requested but covered the entire year. I finally said, I'm willing to pay $4 a month for 5 months or 1 year. I won't pay more than that. Period. I was placed on hold and amazingly, the stars aligned and he was able to find a promotion EXACTLY like I paid for the past 5 months. Shocked. I tell you I'm shocked. Truly shocked.

I purchased a car in January where I had access to Sirius/XM for the first time ever. I got it for free for three months. It's time to call them and cancel. I plan to do the same as you. It's not worth $15 a month. I listen to maybe 3 channels. My husband likes another 1 or 2 and my son loves the "clean" comedy channel. My college daughter's mail still comes to our house. We bought her a car at Christmas (she paid the down payment, we're cosigning the loan and making the payments...her graduation/wedding gift) which also has it. She got the $5 for 5 months offer. I asked her if she planned to use it or if she'd like me to pay it for her as one of her birthday gifts. And so that's what we did. Otherwise, she wasn't going to renew. I'm hoping I have the same luck as you Otherwise, I really won't be missing much.

Sirius is known for this. Cancel and they will try to get you to renew at a lower rate. My friend does this every 6 months. I was getting letters for months, but I never took advantage of their offers since I never used it much.

We have had either XM or Sirius since 2002 because DH used to do the audio compression software for both (and was a Sirius employee from 2003-2008). It was free for us while he worked for them, but since then, we've been in the renewal negotiation hell that we've heard so much about. DH dropped it from his car a few years ago (I laugh because he can't listen to it and can't stand the sound - the sound that HE created!), but I've still had it in mine. My subscription is over in early July, and I've decided to cancel it. I just can't stand the negotiation process. I don't WANT to have to call in a few times a year and go through the same schtick to get a decent price, and I'm not willing to pay what they want me to for the year.
I called last month to cancel it (after getting a card telling me to). They said it was too early. THEN WHY DID YOU SEND ME THE REMINDER CARD??? I persisted. The guy was nice, but went through his scripts to try to get me to stay. I stuck to my guns and after way too long, he canceled my subscription. What a pain.
Now I just have to find the local radio stations around here. I haven't listened to terrestrial radio in my car in years!

DH likes the Sirius XM on my car for road trips. I couldn't care less. He calls every 5 months and gets the same deal as the OP. It's so annoying! We told them we'd gladly pay for 5 years up front at that rate, but of course they won't do that. They count on people forgetting to cancel and getting stuck with a higher rate.

I only programmed in 4 stations and rarely listened to them. I have a couple of Radio Stations that I really like and those are typically what is playing. I also found that I lost signal sporadically. That probably could have been corrected but truthfully it wasn't worth dealing with. I didn't call and cancel I just let it lapse. I have gotten please comeback promos but I don't think they were that great of a deal. So for now I am fine without them.

Mine is going to expire at the end of May and I have to call about the rate. I am dreading it so much that I'm considering cancelling. The sad thing is that I would happily pay the $5/month for a year but I'm not going to call every five months and sit on hold to get that rate. I do like the service but I hate their business model!

I need to call in and try to get a cheap rate. I'm paying way too much but I do really like it. The country station here in SD is spotty at best especially since I'm 40 miles north of SD. It works closer to that area and fades as I get home. I love having no commercials. I can barely stand to listen to readio commercials anymore with their endless legal jargon at 100 mph at the end.

I had it and I realized that I only ever listened to two things: Dr. Laura on my way home from work and Lithium. So what I did was cancel my Sirius and subscribe to Dr. Laura online so I can listen at my desk at work which is awesome and I put all my 90s CDs in the car so I get my fix of 90s alternative radio. I haven't looked back and I haven't missed it and I'm getting off much cheaper.

My dh works for Sirius/XM. Just a tip...when you call, ask for a specific deal that you've seen offered to others, advertised somewhere, etc. There are cases where they are not allowed to tell you about offers, but if you specifically identify one they have to honor it.

When I bought my new Toyota last November, the dude that prepares the car for you told me to let it expire because then you will start getting "we miss you" notices with super low rates, so that's what I did, and I think the last notice I got, it was being offered for around $5, but I ended up not renewing because I didn't listen to it very much. I'm usually playing my iPod or Bluetooth my S5.

I bought 2 portable radios in 2006. I kept the service until 2009 when my commute changed to 5 minutes. One day in 2011 I read some random message board post that said Sirius was notorious for not sending the deactivation signal when a subscription was cancelled. I turned on my radio then and no joke, it was still working! Just last week, they figured it out and my radio updated and I lost the free service. I was able to reactivate for $25 for 5 months. I'll call and negotiate to save $10 per month when this expires.

I cannot tell you the hell I had last time...... Like everyone else, we had it free with a new car. I'd like to use it on the road trips, but my husband is 99% deaf. His fancy hearing aids try to mute the road noise, and when I put the radio on low, the hearing aids increase the volume in his ears or So, we ride along with no music in the background. After a couple of years I went to the travel package only...NO MUSIC at all. I got that and paid for it for a year. $45 for 2 vehicles. Then it was time for renewal. The person I reached on the phone would NOT give me a travel only package....I used the "broken record" technique of saying only what I wanted about 30 times---really, I would say what I wanted and she would reply, "What about the music?" I would say, "I only want the travel information package."......and back and forth it went with my blood pressure getting higher and higher. Finally I said "I am hanging up now." I looked up the CEO number in NYC--called that office, asked for someone in customer service and within 15 minutes all the transaction had happened and I was done. It is time to renew and I just can't do that again. I decided I could use my car GPS and my cell phone and get all those features in a 2 step process. Not quite as easy as 1 step on the screen, but my BP can't take it again.

I got really lucky when we bought my Venza - it was several months old and was a former rental car. Well it had Sirius. They never contacted us to renew so we waited ... and waited. And it kept staying around.
2 years later the rental company must have had an ah-ha moment because suddenly I didn't have it anymore. So it's been over a year and I've realized that half of the time I'm good with my quiet time in the car and the other half I can't listen to regular radio (seriously, if I hear that damn Kars4Kids jingle one more time, I'm gonna scream) and the AM radio/traffic and bad news station is making me depressed!
Hubby said to order it ... I could give up 4 frappucinos to get that price! LOL

We have it in our truck and it is a lifesaver on our yearly roadtrip to BC every summer ... we listen to only about four different channels but it is still worth it for our sanity The dd's in the backseat listen to their own music on their phones ... I just wish I has Sirius in my car

I just called today-I set a notification on my phone for a couple of days before ours is set to renew. I just flat out told her I wouldn't accept anything less than what I had ($25 for 6 mos) because I didn't want to hear all the offers they give and she said fine and gave me the offer I had. It wasn't all that fast-when I called it said I had a 13 min wait so I went for the callback. They called back and then I still had to sit on hold for a few minutes but once the rep was on the phone, it was fairly quick and painless.
