We just bought a fridge over the weekend. I was strongly opposed to the French door types because I keep reading about all the class-action lawsuits against them. Turns out those are mostly LG models, and some Samsung. I think we went with a Whirlpool. The salesman did some extra research for us when I started talking about the lawsuits. I still don't care for the freezer on the bottom, but DH loved the style and he cooks more than I do, so I let him win. We'll see if I warm to this style.

My friend had one and hated it. She felt it just ended up being a big, messy drawer---she struggled to keep it organized. My mom loves hers, though. She's a tiny little thing, and she says it's been much easier for her to deal with than her old French door style.

Sure like my bottom freezer, French Door fridge. Had a side by side for more years than I care to mention.

We have an LG French Door with an ice/water slot. The only reason I don't love it is because since buying it I have had some major (unrelated) back issues. But that affects everything, not just our fridge. We don't use the freezer that much, so there is plenty of room. We mostly have tons of fresh food for the top and it is wonderful to be able to see, organize, and get to all of it. I would recommend 2 bottom drawers rather than one that you open and have a pull out. Just an extra step. We use the pull out drawer for ice bags for my back and our meat. We use one side of the bottom for frozen fruits and veggies and misc stuff and the other for precut and measured smoothies for DH.
eta: we have had it since the summer of 2008 and had zero issues with it.

We're currently looking and I'll go with the freezer on bottom and french doors on top. I don't use the freezer a ton and I really like the french door option on the top so that's the deciding factor for me. GamGam cadoodlebug Can you give me a review of your Samsung? The stores seem to be filled with them and salespeople swear they're the best, but I haven't heard the best reviews from real people using them. Have you had any repairs? How long have you had them? We've had our French door Samsung for about 4 years and we've had no problems with it at all. We have the model with an external pull-out fridge drawer, which I would highly recommend. We keep all of our soda cans in there as well as commonly used items such as butter, sour cream, hummus, etc. Other models I noticed had a large pull-out crisper bin, but you would have to have both sides of the fridge open in order to access it. My 4-door model does not have this. The crispers pull out individually, so it's rare that I have to open both sides of the fridge at once. I love not having to bend down to get things out of the bottom fridge shelves. There is some bending required for the freezer, obviously, but not as much because when I pull out the drawer, I can actually see everything. I don't have to peer into the back. I love the freezer on the bottom. We previously had a top freezer model. This is much better. We also have a pull-out freezer drawer for smaller items that might otherwise get lost in the larer drawer. I don't think any freezer is perfect. Things always got shoved to the back in my old freezer and they were hard to find. This could happen in this freezer, too, theoretically. A side-by-side has really narrow shelves. Of all three models, though, this one works best for us.

We have a Samsung French-door and love it. Me too. The freezer is on the bottom, and has a pull out tray in addition to the bin. I have the pull out drawer plus twin doors on the refrigerator . love, love it. We've had it 3 years, and has performed beautifully. We use the ice/water feature in the door and have had no problems. My DIL has had her's for 6 months longer with no problems.

I'm quite happy with mine. Have always had a freezer either on the bottom or top since I don't have room for a large side by side. I have a separate freezer in the garage so the couple of drawers is enough space to keep a few things inside so I don't have to run out to the garage every time I need something.

Thanks everyone for your input. No kids, just us two middle aged people. We have a chest freezer so I don't access the fridge freezer nearly as often as the fridge. The "new" fridge in the house, even I can barely see the top shelf and I'm 5'2". My 6 foot DH, forget about it.
Hopefully we can sell this one fairly easily and buy a freezer on the bottom fridge. Yahoo.

this is my 2nd one and i love it. The fridge is what we use most often so it's nice that it's on top. Thumbs up from me!

We have an LG French door with freezer on the bottom and love it too! We do too. It holds a ton and I can see it all. Bird's eye view is great instead of getting on knees to see what is on the bottom shelf.

We have a Samsung French-door and love it. Same here. Love the freezer on the bottom. My only gripe is that the white coating on the handles comes off very easily. We replaced one set, and the second set is almost bare now again.

We've had our Samsung for just over one year. It's four door style, French doors on top. One of the bottom compartments can be a fridge or freezer, we use it as a fridge, snacks and drinks. It looks more like a side by side than the French doors of the 2000 decades.
I really like it, but miss being able to reach into the ice maker. I keep a separate bin of ice for convenience.
We do have a supplemental freezer, but I'm not sure we'll need it once teens are grown.

I have a Kitchenaid model, French door, freezer on the bottom. The freezer part is one large drawer, but has large sliding trays on the inside. O have been very happy with it!

We have a top freezer. I'm not sure I could get used to the freezer on the bottom, but it would be nice not to have things fall on my toes from top freezer height!

We have a Samsung French-door and love it. I second that. Ours has ice and water in the door. I have zero issues knowing what's in the freezer and I guarantee you it's not the most organized by any means.

We have a Samsung French door. Love the upper fridge with French doors hate the Samsung. We have spent hours and tons of money having it fixed. Then we looked up online and found two lawsuits against Samsung for faulty drainage tubes that cause the problem we have.
I would never in a million years recommend someone buy a Samsung. And neither would the appliance repairman who came to fix it! Just google Samsung water in crisper drawers and you will find dozens of pages of complaints, lawsuits and recalls. I even started a thread about not too long ago.

Our house came with a bottom freezer fridge in the kitchen when we moved in. I don't have strong feelings either way about the placement of the freezer because we don't keep a whole lot in it. If it was our only freezer I probably would have more problems with it. I have more issues with the fact that the whole refrigerator is only 24" deep (built into a cabinet) so it doesn't hold a large pizza box or anything else of a similar size on the shelves and it won't hold a gallon of milk in the door.
We have a big upright freezer and a second chest freezer that most of our frozen stuff is kept in, plus a second standard fridge with a freezer on top in the garage.

I like mine! I am tall and use the fridge way more often than opening the freezer drawer. The bottom has bins and drawers to keep things organized. An unexpected bonus is that when the dogs are "helping" me cook in my tiny kitchen the fridge door opens way over the top of their heads. I got the one big door instead of french doors due to kitchen layout.

I have one and I hate it. It was given to me for free so I tolerate it gratefully. But secretly, on the inside, I can't wait for the fridge to die so I can get rid of the stupid bottomless pit that is the bottom drawer freezer.

We have one and I'm not a huge fan. First, if you have kids and they don't listen and pour drinks inside the fridge, when they spill it drips into the freezer. Also stuff is just piled in the freezer and because of the top rack that pulls out, things that have lids (like ice cream) the pull out rack hits the lid if it the container is not low enough and crunches the container (maybe it's just my kids who shove things in there and try to get the door closed. Pulling out the drawer and closing it when there are ice cube trays makes them slosh all over (we don't have an ice maker). Currently we can't keep my 2 year old out of the freezer because he thinks there are popsicles in there and there is no way to keep him from pulling the drawer open (at least the french doors on the top can be toddler proofed. I really wish we had gotten a side by side like I wanted but DH insisted on the freezer on the bottom... I would probably like the fridge more if it weren't for those pesky meddling kids... This is my experience exactly, I like it more than my side by side due to the fact that a pizza fits, bit other than that you have to dig and stuff keeps getting crushed, and stuff tends to spill from opening the drawer too quickly so it's a pain to clean.
