I searched but couldn't find anything recent. I'd like your opinions about fridges with the freezer on bottom.
i HATE the fridge that came with our new house so we will be shopping for a new one and selling the other one.
Thanks for your help.

We had one for a few years. What I liked about it was that the fridge was really wide. It felt more spacious than the side-by-sides that we'd had, even though I know it wasn't really bigger. The freezer on the bottom was OK. We had a drawer and I felt that it was SMALLER than on the side by sides. It was also a pain to have to bed all the time to see what was in there.

The fridge that came with my new house has the freezer on the bottom. I was used to the side-by-side type, and I'm having a hard time getting used to the bottom freezer. For one thing, I can't see things as easily because they are all sort of piled on top of each other down there. And while I know it's not logical, it doesn't seems as if I can fit as much as in the side by side.
I don't like this bottom freezer situation.

We got a Whirlpool Gold freezer on the bottom fridge when we built our house 17 years ago. When it needed to be replaced we got another. I love the freezer on the bottom and would not ever want to go back to a freezer on the top model. I don't like side-by-sides because they are too narrow to fit some things in. I also did not care about having water and ice dispensers on the outside.

Mine is like that. I don't hate it, but don't absolutely love it. I feel like it doesn't hold as much and I have to dig a lot to get to what I need. But since I don't get in the freezer nearly as often as I do the fridge part, it makes sense for it to be on the bottom.

We have a Samsung French-door and love it. Me too. The freezer is on the bottom, and has a pull out tray in addition to the bin. I have the pull out drawer plus twin doors on the refrigerator . love, love it.

I really really dislike my freezer on the bottom. Things are always getting disorganized and jammed up.

I have a Whirlpool Gold french door that came with our new house and I hate it. You can't fit as much in the freezer and its hard to find things. I also don't like that I have to open both upper door to open the large vegetable tray.

We have a Whirlpool French door with freezer on the bottom. We LOVE it. The only thing I would change is one drawer. It is at the bottom of the ref. portion of the appliance. It is as wide as the entire unit, so we have to open both French doors to use that drawer. (odd idea to make it one huge narrow drawer, IMO) We chose NOT to have water in the door or ice in the door. IMO, that just gives more electronics to malfunction and I am not so weak that I cannot open the door to get cold water. Having those things built into the door also makes for less room on the ref. part, so............We do have an icemaker in the freezer portion of the appliance. Freezer on the bottom is wider than the side by side units.

I my freezer on the bottom. Ours has a pull out drawer and a great basket system that helps keep if really organized. DH bought a side-by-side fridge when we moved to CA without any input from me. I hate it and, obviously he did too, because we only had it 2 years when we bought our current house and he suggested it become the garage fridge and we bought a new Fench door refridgerator for the kitchen. I'd always had a traditional freezer on top before. I love having my vegetable & fruit bins higher with the freezer on the bottom.

We have one and I'm not a huge fan. First, if you have kids and they don't listen and pour drinks inside the fridge, when they spill it drips into the freezer. Also stuff is just piled in the freezer and because of the top rack that pulls out, things that have lids (like ice cream) the pull out rack hits the lid if it the container is not low enough and crunches the container (maybe it's just my kids who shove things in there and try to get the door closed.
Pulling out the drawer and closing it when there are ice cube trays makes them slosh all over (we don't have an ice maker).
Currently we can't keep my 2 year old out of the freezer because he thinks there are popsicles in there and there is no way to keep him from pulling the drawer open (at least the french doors on the top can be toddler proofed.
I really wish we had gotten a side by side like I wanted but DH insisted on the freezer on the bottom...
I would probably like the fridge more if it weren't for those pesky meddling kids...

I have an Amana French-door fridge with freezer on bottom and I love it. I was never willing to consider a side-by-side ... I dislike that style intensely.

I'm going to add that ours is NOT a French-door model. I thought I'd like that but when we looked at them I realized that opening both doors would be a pain in the butt because of where our fridge is in the kitchen. We have a standard one door fridge section. We do have an ice maker in the freezer, but the current freezer has better baskets and the whole thing is a pull out drawer, much better than what was available 17 years ago.

We're currently looking and I'll go with the freezer on bottom and french doors on top. I don't use the freezer a ton and I really like the french door option on the top so that's the deciding factor for me. GamGam cadoodlebug Can you give me a review of your Samsung? The stores seem to be filled with them and salespeople swear they're the best, but I haven't heard the best reviews from real people using them. Have you had any repairs? How long have you had them?

I love my freezer on the bottom french door fridge. I do have a large chest freezer in the basement so the freezer in the kitchen is mostly for things I use often. It's not as necessary for me to have it be super efficient. The fridge is, though. I love having it up higher so I don't have to bend over to get things out. I get into it way more than my freezer anyway so it makes sense for it to be more easily accessed. I hate side by sides because I don't think they are easy to use and I find the narrow freezer to be pretty much useless.

I love the freezer on the bottom. I like that it makes the fridge up high. My freezer is a pull out drawer with another pull out inside. I'm not a fan of side by sides because I find them too narrow and I don't like the fridge all the way to to floor. I would replace it with another when it dies.

Our first one had an issue that couldn't be resolved so after 18 months (and the warranty over) they gave us a NEW one free. We were stunned that they didn't prorate it. Haven't had issues with this one. One of the main things I like about it is that it has a sateen finish that looks like stainless but doesn't show fingerprints like stainless. I don't know if they make that option any longer. We also do not have water/ice on the front and never hooked up the cold water/ice maker inside. DH has had too many clients whose water line leaked and ruined their floors so we just make our own ice and cold water. No biggie because we don't use ice very often.

I have a freezer on the bottom and I like it because I hate having to crouch over to see what's in the fridge (freezer on top) but on the other hand, it's basically a big hole that stuff gets dumped in. ours has dividers and a slider on top but it still gets lots of stuff dumped in. I'm going to talk my husband into an upright freezer to replace our small chest freezer and then I'll get over it. lol

We have an LG French door with freezer on the bottom and love it too! We do as well and I also really like mine. In this house we have had a traditional refrigerator, a side-by-side, and got the French door type two years ago when we redid this kitchen. I love the refrigerator section on the top. The bottom does make it a little trickier to see the food sometimes, but we have two separate chores that slide out so I have been able to figure out where things go. I will never go back to a traditional style or side-by-side.

I absolutely LOVE having the freezer on the bottom! I don't go into the freezer as much as the fridge so I would rather have everything in the fridge at standing level than to stoop down for some stuff like you would for a side by side. I also like have a larger horizontal surface for platters and such.

I have an LG French door with the freezer on the bottom and like it so much better than I thought I would. I really love the room I have with width of the refrigerator. I never had side by side because I didn't like how narrow the frig was. I have learned how to place items in the freezer so that they stay fairly well organized.

I like my freezer on the bottom model (mine's not a French door). Yes, it can get a bit jumbled up in there but that was also my complaint when I had my side by side. If you can keep it organized, it's good.

I am on my second Whirlpool French door freezer on the bottom (because of a move I'm on number two). I love the functionality. I get into the fridge WAY more than the freezer. I absolutely HATE top freezers. I love how spacious and eye level the fridge portion is. The new home had a side by side that is now in the garage and serves as a receptacle for beverages and overflow food for entertaining. I don't mind the layout of the freezer in the house ... it forces me to be mindful of what is there and use it regularly. Wouldn't trade it for anything!
