My DD is a huge fan of Black Milk clothing, which is made in Australia. She only has a couple of secondhand items she found on Ebay, and I would love to buy her a new piece for her 21st birthday at the end of May. I was a bit shocked at how expensive the label is, but it would make my DD so happy to get a surprise piece. My problem is that, even though international shipping is free from Black Milk, if the item gets caught at Customs in the UK it will add about 30-40% to the cost which makes it unaffordable for me. I'm scared to take the risk. Are there are Aussie Peas who would be willing to receive the order for me and then send it on as a non-business parcel? I would obviously reimburse you immediately by Paypal for the shipping costs.

I'd be happy to do it for you. I don't know how much tax you have to pay, but I could ask first to see how much it would be before you go ahead.
Australia post rates just went up. I'm about to send a really small item...50g in weight to someone else in Australia and it's costing me $7.50. But then I recently paid $8Au to have 17 balls of yarn posted from the UK! Ridiculous that I can get a huge parcel from halfway across the world for the same amount as a tiny parcel in Australia.
Anyway, my point is that it might not be much cheaper in the long run, but let me know what you want and how much it weighs and I can go and ask at the PO how much it would be before you go ahead.

There's no import VAT on gifts but you might have to pay the customs tax on parcels that are marked even as gifts though Lesley if they are above £135 which would be about A$300 plus the post office charge for collecting the tax. Think it's 2.5% the import customs tax. ETA Yes there is also VAT to be paid in gifts are over £34.

Thank you so much pjaye. I have emailed Black Milk and asked them to confirm the shipping weight of the jacket. I'll get back to you.

Last time I got caught for customs tax the post office levied a charge too. £7 rings a bell but I'm going back about 4 years.
