I read this in SF Gate last night and knew I had to ask the Refugees would they ever hire a "ManServant" and if you would consider doing this what might you consider having this "ManServant" do for you since this is not a "gigolo service".

Oh my. That is a very interesting business idea. I would totally hire one to do all kinds of things. I pay for someone to clean my house, landscape my yard, etc. Why not have some eye candy at the same time for my money?

My friend gave me a book called "p*rn for Women" for my birthday one year. In it were pictures of hot guys doing housework. So I think they might be on to something. LOL

I wouldn't. I'm too reserved. If I wasn't married and had the $$ to blow then maybe.

I guess I don't feel that the point of feminism was so women could buy good looking people too. And unless this guy can change the oil in my car for less than the not quite as hot guys down at the Jiffy Lube I don't really see the point. Maybe I am far to practical to rent show pieces.

No I wouldn't consider anything like that. I have a DH who does a great job of treating me like a queen and IMO isn't exactly shabby in the looks department A couple of years ago I was travelling o/seas a lot with work and because my company tended to book with the same hotel chain regardless of which country we went to, I must have racked up quite a few loyalty points with that chain. So when I checked in at one of them they told me I'd been upgraded to a private suite, and it came with a personal butler. Now, up to that time I'd always said I would love something like that. But when it happened I was hopeless at it. This poor guy hung around all day and even late into the evenings just waiting for me to ask him to do something. I couldn't think of a single thing. He even asked if I'd like him to run me a bath, but I hate baths so I said no thanks, lol! Maybe if I was in my own home I could send him to do the groceries or something, but I always have a hard time asking people to do things like that for me. We have a cleaner and I just let them do whatever they think is best - I hate having to point out something that wasn't done well. Maybe it's something that comes easier to you if you were brought up with home help being the norm?

Yes...I would hire a Manservant. I would love to have someone to hold me at night sometimes when I sleep. Just sometimes when my treatments are making me really sick and I'm scared and can't talk to the kids about it. It would be so nice to fall asleep with someone holding me. Something more along the lines of "falling asleep in daddy's arms' versus "falling asleep next to a lover" type of thing.

I can see hiring one for a bachelorette party or something similar to serve us. I think there are already plenty of companies you can hire from for that sort of thing though. I don't think this is a new concept.

I want to know what they're going to do when men start calling for Manservants, too. Gay men or straight men. Will it be limited to female clientele only?

No, I don't think I would.
I'd feel badly needing to pay by the hour to have someone more attractive than myself hang around me.
Plus, awkward.

No, because hiring based on looks never feels right or acceptable to me.

Naw, I'd pass. I can see how it would be appealing to some, though.

I was ready to post something silly until I read this. I am so sorry you are going through this. ((HUGS))

Honestly, if they're cleaning my house, I don't give a rats a*s about what they look like. I wouldn't be able to get past "YEAH! They're cleaning my house!!!!"

I'm not in the market for such a service. I married a hottie who helps keep the house clean and does the yard work. No need to pay some other less attractive guy when my hubby is a great provider, hard worker, and very pleasing on the eye.

The caterer at one of my jobs used to hire the cater-waiters from a modeling agency. They were almost all men, and the few women didn't appear to be models. I have no idea what was up with all that (were the catering jobs given to models who didn't have a gig that week? And why did the women look like ordinary mortals?) Anyway, it was oddly uncomfortable. These guys were tire-screeching, traffic-stopping gorgeous. It was actually distracting - I often heard guests at events commenting on "those waiters!" After awhile, the caterer went back to sending normal people as cater-waiters. I really wonder what happened. LOL I can't think of a job where it would be more fun to hire a gorgeous man instead of the most highly competent person. I guess the bachelorette party scenario might be one, but I'm a little past the age of those shenanigans.

No, because I wouldn't want my DH to hire a woman just because she's really attractive and I doubt he'd want me to hire a man because of his looks.

I'd be interested not so much for the eye candy aspect (wouldn't mind if he's plain), but for how lovely it would be to have an assistant / handler / bodyguard / driver sometimes. Bachelorette parties, sure, but what about a car parker / package hauler for holiday shopping time? There are times I'd really enjoy having help with errand running and such but I don't necessarily want to drag DH along - or he has something else he needs to do.
