Well, I must be a prude also! I can't stand any of the new Kmart commercials. It really makes me sick to see "kids with attitudes" being promoted as funny. I don't find it funny at all - just really annoying. Don't watch any of the shows on Disney Channel or Nick geared towards kids/tweens. I think that at least half of the kids on those shows have attitudes that I would not want my kids exhibiting in life.

I couldn't really understand what they were saying either. but, I don't get how this can make you a "prude".... I guess I think of "prude" differently. Yeah, I don't think disliking it makes anyone a "prude", either.

The new Kmart commercial grates my nerves. Yet another example of the deterioration of our society. As a teacher of elementary age students, I don't allow them to speak 'street slang' while at school. I also encourage yes over yeah explaining there is a time and place but school isn't it..ie formal vs informal settings. I am sure I am unintentionally opening a can of worms but ughh that commercial. eta: the link. m.youtube.com/watch?v=NRaoFivQYSkWe don't get Kmart commercials but then we don't have any Kmart stores anymore. I did watch the you tube and can say I have never heard any children or teens talk that way around here. So I had a hard time understanding what was said. If I had to watch it it would aggravate me.

It made me giggle. I'm the mom of two sons...I love a good Yo Momma joke. I thought this commercial was a clever spin on that.

I like that it's all compliments. It's like a Yo Mama competition to see who can give the biggest compliment instead of the biggest insult. I also liked the diversity in the commercial. That always pleases me. On the other hand, I think the acting and production are terrible.

This doesn't bother me at all. The kids on the playground and it's just a commercial.. The ones that have bothered me in the past are ones where they are showing back to school clothes that are totally inappropriate for schoolwear.

The worst part is that creepy guy in the shorts at the end.

I think that is obviously dramatized. I don't know ANY children who really speak like that. I must be naïve.

I loved all of the positive comments. They were funny. Kids talk like that out on the playground. Hear them every day.

Eeek! Must make a correction.
I liked Sharla's post because I liked what she said about AX vs ASK. However I could not watch the rest of the ad because it takes videos forever to buffer with our rental-house wi-fi, so I only saw the first couple of lines. Not sure what prude has to do with playground slang?

I haven't seen it, nor could I open your link on this laptop, but I agree with you. It irked me badly enough when there was a commercial that had a parental figure telling their child, " You did good," on a test.

Didn't understand a word of it, although I'm pretty sure I heard 'fiscally responsible' in there somewhere.
Whatever it is they are selling, I think I will continue to manage without it.

That commercial just irritates me. I would never hear kids at our school speaking like that. I cannot stand it!

They are saying positive things, but then the kids all groan as though it were negative. Makes no sense. that is the humor in it. Have you ever heard a group of grown ups sitting around doing Yo Mama? I find it funny. I remember listening to my students do this in the 90s they were not being positive and it was funny. I like Kmarts spin on it. Though Ship my pants... is the funnies commercial I think I have ever seen! Neither of them will get me to shop at Kmart and there is one within walking distance of my house!

I remember seeing that last year. I think it's funny. Kmart has some cute commercials but I still won't shop there.

I also work with kids in a school (psychologist intern) and I don't have a problem with it. I think you're reading WAY too much into the commercial.

I'm chill. I'm fine. Thanks for asking. Grammar is a dying art at this point, and to hear "you did good" as an acceptable form of speech, is upsetting to me. I have my right to my opinion. Coming from this old English major, it does irk me and I wish that people would use the PROPER form of speech. Not too hard. As a sidenote: We're not starting off on the wrong foot here, are we, scrap? I surely hope not!!!!!!!!!! I"m done with that at the Peas. It got boring. I'm almost 54 and I don't need your handslap.

LOL! Oh the irony! I say things like "you did good!" and "you did great!". Maybe it's a southern thing, maybe it's a lazy incorrect grammar thing... but either way it's a positive thing and you can never have too much of that!

Or the true redneck version..."you done good kid." And I, who most assuredly knows better, have been known to say this with some regularity.

I hate that commercials, but because they are so obnoxious. I also hate the Payless shoes commercial with the 2 little girls.

I say "you did good" to my nephew all the time when we're at baseball. Who knew I was a lazy bum.

I thought it was cute and funny. That kind of talk used to grate on me, too. Both the culture and the accent were foreign to me. After living here for 20+ years, I don't hear it as odd or grating in the same way. My kids (native New Yorkers, all) didn't get it the first time around - they expected insults, so they "heard" insults. When I pointed out that they were all compliments, they had to listen again.
Maybe...but delivery is half the art of communicating.
The only thing I could understand was "K-Mart" and I agree with the posters who said it sounded "forced." I guess it all depends upon who is watching the commercial but as for me, the commercial doesn't inspire me to shop at K-Mart.
