Okay, I'm giving in to peer pressure. lol I need to replace my ancient crock pot (so old that it doesn't even have a three-prong plug) so I guess you all have convinced me that a pressure cooker is the way to go. I've been reading the weekly recipe/idea threads and everything sounds great. I'm looking forward to trying corn on the cob, and that risotto from this weeks' thread, and meat, and just about everything else. Except maybe the cheesecake, unless I'm making it to take somewhere else. lol So tell me what brand you have, and why I need that brand, and what "gadgets" I need to get along with it -- I saw someone mention a separate pan for meat, for example. I have several styles saved in my Amazon cart, based just on the Amazon reviews. But I'd like to hear from you all, the actual users. Thanks so much for enabling me.

We're in this together I see ![](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/TKS2q_7siLiFtq0xPQvx.jpg) I'll be watching with interest for what will translate across the pond in terms of gadgets and extras if not brands and models ![](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Instant Pot Duo 6 quart. link to it on Amazon.8000 people have reviewed it on Amazon - 4.7 out of 5 stars It can be used as a rice cooker, slow cooker, yogurt maker, in addition to a pressure cooker. It also has a sauté/browning function, which allows you to brown your meat and carmelize onions in the pot before bringing it up to pressure. I personally think it is the best one on the market right now and at a great price.

I have a fagor and it's okay. I have to fiddle with the lid a little to get it to seal. I think if I were buying now I'd get either the instant pot or the fagor lux. Both have an inner pot that isn't nonstick. The IP has stainless and the Fagor has ceramic, both dishwasher safe (my inner pot is d/w safe as well). I wish the instant pot inner pot was at least somewhat nonstick but I've never had a problem getting my stainless pots and pans clean as long as I don't try to cook eggs in them.

Bumping up for the after-work crowd, although I may go with Elaine's suggestion since it seems that she's the Queen of these pressure cookers.

I just told do that I want to buy another electric pc. I have an 8 quart Wolfgang puck model, but want to get the instantpot duo linked above in a 6 qt. it will be handy sometimes to have 2 to make multiple things, but the 6 qt with a yogurt option would be a better day to day option

Once you start eating yogurt with no additives other than live cultures, you will never go back.

Another vote for the Instant Pot Duo. I love mine, I use it at least twice a week - chicken, ribs, roasts, pork roasts, green beans - all amazing and so easy. Best kitchen gadget ever.

Okay, just clicked "place your order" on the Duo. It will be here in two days. Bunch of enablers, all of you.

You actually CANNOT safely can using this pressure cooker. It is a false claim. The only electric pressure canner is made by Ball and is around $300. Otherwise, the only way to safely can is to use a pressure canner. You can pressure cook in a pressure canner (but they are huge), but you cannot pressure can in a pressure cooker.

No need to keep a single-purpose appliance in that case!

I thought it was odd but it was right on the box, even has a special "canning" button ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) But I did some research as well (not that I don't trust you, you hadn't posted yet ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg) ) and of course you're right. I can't believe someone hasn't sued them yet!

Ive been eyeballing pressure cookers after reading the boards. Here is the thing...Im a vegetarian and my daughter is not. She is 17 and cooking her own stuff but it takes forever to prepare her meat dishes. Mostly because she doesn't plan ahead with me and so we spend a lot of time waiting for chicken to thaw and then the time it takes to actually prep her desired style. would this be of help to her? I would not be using it for any of my food prep. I don't make yogurt and I have a 7 dollar rice cooker I got from Target eons ago that is AMAZING....I was more thinking of helping her out with her meat. She has been experimenting lately with different ways to cook things but time is not her friend
