Now see, I consider talking to and answering oneself to be completely normal. Who doesn't do that?? It's fun to read all your quirks and eccentricities! Do you do it out loud and in public like I do? It's funny when some stranger answers your question because they thought you were asking them.

Where to begin. I feel like I have too many quirks to even count. I guess one that comes to mind is that I click the lock button on my car until I'm too far away for the signal to reach. So I'm sorry for everyone around me, that has to be quite annoying. Ha! I do the opposite. When walking to my car every day after work I start clicking to unlock when I get out the door knowing full well the lock won't open for another 100 steps. EVERY DAY. Another wacky thing about me is I have to have the tv volume ending in a 0 or 5. Like 20, 25, 30 .... can't be 27 or 33 or whatever. I never wondered if others did those things I do. But when out and about driving to and fro I wonder where everyone else is going. Like where is that car going or that car, where are they going? Especially on the highway.

I count things (in my mind) - while I know other people do it - not everyone does. When I walk, I am counting my steps. When I am waiting at the doctors - I count the ceiling tile. When I am sitting at someone's desk, I count the pencils in their cup. When I go to a meeting, i count the number of people there. My mind is always counting things. Me too... It's weird. I also used to spell things in my head. I stopped that, and the counting is much less now too. It's all annoying to me. It makes me feel OCD or something like that.

I have a bad habit of putting my hair in my mouth. I pull a bunch of hair from the left side of my head and then hold it between my lips. Or sometimes I hold it between my teeth. (But I never bite it off or chew it...that would be weird.) I don't think I've ever seen anyone else do it. One attorney at my old job did this, especially when she was in court. It gave everyone a pause.

It's funny when some stranger answers your question because they thought you were asking them. I definitely do it out loud, I probably do it in public. I have multiple conversations/thoughts going on in my head most of the time, and verbally processing helps to separate them and focus on just one. (And I swear I'm not schizophrenic! I have an aunt like me- and she's perfectly normal! Apparently we have lots of ideas running around all. the. time.)

Any time I notice it's 9:11 I remember 9/11. Me too. Just about every day. My dd does that. My quirk (when I was a kid) used to be that I saw the numbers nine and twelve everywhere. They were lucky to me at the time. Now I don't feel anything towards them. I guess it could be considered a quirk, I can't leave my car without checking that my headlights are turned off, and that all the windows are rolled up all the way, and all the doors are locked. I also have to state aloud as I'm locking up the front door when leaving the house, "I just locked the front door." Otherwise, if I just do it as an automatic motion and part of my routine, I'll second guess myself and worry all day that I've left our home unlocked. Yes, I'm weird.

I'm a counter. Not as bad as I used to be but I still catch myself doing it, especially stairs on a staircase or things like that.
I quite frequently notice when the time is exactly 12:34. Both am and pm.
I narrate my thoughts quite regularly. At first it was for my dogs and now for my kid, but really I'm just verbalizing what's in my head.
I chew two pieces of Trident Original gum when I drive. Never just one, and not typically when I'm a passenger. I do it so often it's become a habit.
I press my left thumb against my forehead when I'm falling asleep. I noticed that I scrunch up my forehead and was getting deep wrinkles, and for some reason doing the thumb thing makes me relax and stop.
And I do leave the bathroom door open when I'm alone. It's better than listening to dogs scratching and whining at the door to get in if I don't!

I type an imaginary keyboard while songs are playing, while other people are talking . . . really, ALL the time (If I'm not already typing at work). I challenge myself to see if I can keep up with the spoken words. And I get a little angry when I can't. I'll replay a song to try it again until I can actually keep up. I write what they are saying in shorthand. (I guess that's showing my age.) I wish I could do that. I remember taking one ( or maybe a half) of a shorthand class is school before it was eliminated. (and I think they were only teaching girls!) I've often thought it would still be a cool/useful tool to have. I'm sure I could teach myself but it would be cool to "already know".

I read while I eat.
I braid tiny sections of my hair, sometimes looking for hair of the same length (my hair is very layered). Then a few min later I'll unbraid and start over.

I can't remember what I had for dinner last night, but I can remember someone's birth month even if I just meet them one time. My kids think that's creepy!

I used to spell things in my head as well. I seemed to 'outgrow' it as it ended when I left high school. Now, I need to put people in order by the color of their clothes when I'm sitting in a meeting at work. Like, someone with a blue/green checked shirt goes between someone wearing green and someone wearing blue. I line everyone up to create a color continuum. It's weird, I think, and just started a couple of years ago as something to do in boring meetings, but I cannot sit in a meeting at work without doing this now.

My mom STILL writes out her 'master' Christmas list in shorthand. Then she leaves it laying around with little post it notes that say such cutesy foo-foo things like 'bet you wish could read this' and 'hahahahaha you have NO idea...' Drove us crazy as kids, drives us crazy as adults. She gives the best gifts ever so we really don't want to know, but still...

Volume control has to be an even number for me. And I do talk to myself at work. Which is funny because I wear a headset and people assume that I am on the phone.

I ask myself stuff right out loud. I'm 'that' crazy lady talking to herself LOL Oh my gosh, one of my own parenting things with each of my kids was to talk to them pretty much all of the time when we were shopping. They were sitting there, right in front of me, facing me, with nothing at all to do, so I figured I'd narrate or comment or question pretty much everything we looked at, picked up, etc. while shopping. Every once in a very, very rare while, I would actually find myself shopping alone, and I cannot tell you how many times during those rare solo trips I would catch myself talking out loud to my invisible child about the grocery item I was choosing. Then I'd glance around to see if anyone "caught" me being a loon. You got me- I am your crazy shopping cart mumbling doppelgänger! I got so used to asking their opinions, even when they weren't old enough to speak, I'd find myself doing it when alone.

My alarm has to end in a 2. 10:02, 8:32 etc.
Some of the counting examples can be part of OCD. I used to either count or make patterns with my fingers (tapping them in one direction then the other) and it was excruciating at times. When I find myself starting to do this I make a conscious effort to stop.
I sometimes type words as I'm thinking or hearing them, but unlike the other poster, I'm not fast enough to keep up.

The funny thing is that it has been so long since I've actually written anything in shorthand it would probably not even be legible.

I do this when landing in a plane. After he says we are decending, I will do a countdown to landing. And I count on the takeoff......from the moment we start accelerating to the time where we are pretty leveled.... I never know how fast we are going to descend though, so I cant' say I count then.
Remember the end of "Say Anything," where John Cusack is afraid to fly? (Or should I say, Lloyd Dobbler? )

I hear everything I type or read too. I have a bad habit of looking at people and then figuring out what animal they remind me of. For instance DH has an old friend from college who totally looks like he would be a turtle if he were an animal. I secretly call him "Turtle Dave" lol.

Last night my husband and I were eating dinner. Prior to that, we were in our yard and our neighbor was out. She has a baby bump, due in September. Well, while we were eating dinner, I randomly blurt out, "I wonder if they got pregnant at home or at one of the weddings or vacations they've been on?". My husband was like, WTF??? The neighbors are a young couple and never home. They are gone practically every weekend. LOL!

cyndijane -- I do that too!!!! (Apparently my DD has also inherited this from me too.) My other unusual gift -- I can usually recall what day of the week it is past or future when someone mentions a date. They call me "Rainwoman" at my office. I just think in calendar format and when someone says June 24 I can say "that's a Friday" and it will be because I am relating it to some other date near that which I remember (a birthday or deadline or event) and then mentally count the days away from that. Weird I know!
