Is anyone a spotter/chaser/resident? What say we have an ongoing thread for the week.
Right now Western OK & NC TX are the target area for this afternoon, but that's pretty variable due to instability in the atmosphere.

I work in Kansas and live in Missouri. It poured at work we had flood warnings and a mere 30 minutes away at home, not a drop.

Oh mercy sakes what an afternoon!!! I'm sure it'll be on national news in the morning - I'm sure it already is lol. I'm not in Dodge City but was monitoring it and it was a madhouse (NWS DDC did an absolutely amazing job), with reports coming in by the handfuls. Will be interesting to see the final tornado count. Unbelievably there haven't been any fatalities reported, although there are critical injuries.
I was so wrapped up in DC that I honestly didn't notice if there was anything else significant going on. Is everyone ok?
More to come tomorrow. and Thursday. and Friday....

I just got the briefing for tomorrow afternoon - yegads. And I'm supposed to be on a ball field an hour away.

It got intense again last night around Enid and west of Topeka. Today's supposed to be the big fireworks day, although the outlooks from different sources don't agree on just how big the fireworks will be. Ugh

There was a huge 1/2 mile wide tornado on the ground in central Kansas last night for about 90 minutes. Chapman is about an hour and a half west of me. This thing was huge and hard to see since it was dark-ish and the tornado was rain wrapped. Amazingly no one died and no one was injured. It did destroy houses and farm land but the area is pretty rural so there was not a ton of damage.
Some of the pictures of the tornadoes in Dodge City from Tuesday night are spectacular. I'll see if I can find some..

We had some severe storms roll through all night long. One knocked our power out briefly at 1 a.m.. Then another wave rolled through around 3 (?), and another around 5 this morning. I know it hailed for a while. We really need to move the rest of our things in from the garage so we can park in it. I almost fled to the basement when the winds got strong. I'm over spring already!

(He was also super-upset, he thought Chapman had taken a direct hit and was shocked when he got there & found out it was missed.)
You've got a good chance of being in the middle of it today, too.
I feel like I'm just sitting here waiting for the world to end. The line is stalled out at the county line of a town I'm supposed to be in for State SB later today. I can't believe they haven't cancelled. That are has been tor-warned for about the past hour and a half. I'm not wild about spending an hour on a rural highway, especially coming back in the dark.

Oh boy! It was pretty exciting here a bit ago! There was a funnel cloud with rotation about 7 miles outside of town so the sirens were blaring. The storm tracked over the north end of our town but I don't think it ever touched down. Then we had a storm with rotation and a funnel that reached the ground about 40 min west of me at the same time as the storm here in Topeka. We were in the basement at work. DH works up north of town where the action was and he said it rained and rained and had pretty good size hail. They don't have a basement but have a storm shelter so they were crammed in there.

I was driving to Target, hoping to make it before the rain hit, but that didn't work. When we were half a mile away the sky was green and by the time we went inside it was pouring. I bought me clothes because I was drenched and the pants that I was wearing were cold and heavy. We left once the rain let up, then had problems getting home because of the high water all over the streets. It took two hours of driving and turning around, trying to figure out the best way to go. It was the highway, but it was out of the way. I'm really not complaining. I am happy to be home and safe with the kids. For A while there I thought I was going to be sleeping in the car!

A friend in FB linked to this tornado tracking website that said there have been 35 tornadoes in Kansas in the last 48 hours. Crazy!
