Yep - when I got my new rig in 2012, I got customized plates and I love it. I get tons of compliments on it still. It's 1XY-2XX
ETA: It cost about $50 a year extra for a personalized plate.

No I don't and I don't think I would ever do it. I just don't see the point and most of them are really cheesy (obviously not to the owner). I had a colleague who was stalked for ages and one of the things that helped was the distinctive personalised plates on a very plain jane car.

I used to, but NY state kept upping the cost to have them. They were $12 a year extra when I first got them. A few years ago they upped it to $50 a year. I turned them in and got a regular plate.

I don't have personalised plates. I'm not really a fan TBH, unless it's a sporting or club theme. You can only have 6 characters in this country which limits one's creativity somewhat!
When I bought my current car I had to get new plates for it and I toyed with the idea of getting plates in my footballs team's colours and with the logo in between but it was going to cost me $400 to purchase them. Plus I didn't want to risk any opposing team's supporters deliberately damaging my car - you never know! I don't think it costs us any extra in our yearly registration fees once we've paid for the plates up front.

Mine says JSCRPPY. It's from way back in the day when some friends and I were joking about what our "rap names" would be (like P Diddy or whatever) and mine was J Scrappy.
My husband just traded in his KYAK FSH plates, because he's not kayak fishing any more (bad back.) He's getting plates that read TRPL HLX--for Triple Helix, the robotics team he mentors.

Yup. My MINI's plate is FUNS1ZE. I think it only cost 15 bucks extra a year. I don't think I'd do it if it was over 50 bucks.

I just checked and here it is $30 in addition to the renewal fee. I was glad to see that "By investing in a personalized license plate, you are supporting the following important programs. The Clean Water Management Trust Fund, The Roadside Wildflower Planting Program, N.C. Travel and Tourism Promotion, Handicapped Access Guide to N.C." I don't have a problem supporting those programs.

When my kids got their first cars, i sprang for personalized plates. DH let me know fast he wanted one, too, and i joined the party.
My son and hubby got their gamer names.
I got KAYAK3R (KAYAKER was already taken.)
DD got IKYK2
After DD stopped kayaking, I went back to a plain tag and she got SNGBRD (SONGBIRD) because we've always called her our songbird.
I have all of the plates that we're no longer using.

You don't have to re-purchase the personalized plate every year, do you? My regular plate I just stick the new sticker over the old one. Here you do--every year you pay the premium price for personalized plates. The renewals for regular plates is $55 and personalized almost $90

I have my initials. My husband bought it for me. He likes it more than I do, but I think it looks good enough. My daughter has her college plate personalized by using the logo's big C and then adding MU for CMU. She graduated last year, but swears she will never give up that plate. The custom plates are relatively cheap here and fun.

I'd love to have one but it's an extra $90 a year in registration fees....I'm way too cheap for that!

No but you do need to pay the higher fee every year to renew them. My plate is personalized. The regular fee to renew your plate is around $50 bucks; I pay $150 each year. My plate, BTW, says WWFSMD I'm can't figure out your plates either. Maybe I am just too tired tonight.

My Grandma had personal plates on her 64 1/2 Mustang that said Lola Ni (for Lola and I) when she sold it to me I was 16 and wanted to keep the tradition, so I got GOJENNY. My parents liked it, so they got GOMLLRS (go Millers) on their Mustang and my sister got GOBECKY. We all worked at car dealerships so it was pretty typical to have them. When my parents got divorced my Mom changed hers to Grahmmy since that's what all the grandkids call her (Grammy was taken). My stepdad is from Texas and his says CWBYJOE (cowboy Joe) I kept my personal plates on my vehicles until we moved to WA, then it just wasn't the same without the rest of the family here, so it hangs on the wall in the garage in my spot. ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) ?

DH was gifted a car when he earned his masters' degree, and a personalized plate to go with it relating to the degree. He really liked it and had it for years but eventually decided he didn't get a big enough thrill when he saw it anymore to justify the price.
I would love a customized Spurs' plate but not sure what I would want it to say.

Our RV also has personalized plates, USNVBSS - US Navy Vessel Board Search and Seizure. My son is VBSS for his ship, but calls it Visit Board Search and Seizure. Has the name changed over the years? I had a personalized plate years ago when I lived in Virginia. My then-husband and I belonged to a dance club there based on a specialized dance we do here in the south called "the shag" that's done to "beach music." The Virginia version differed slightly from what we had grown up with in SC. So my tag was "SC SHAG." It never occurred to me that plenty of other people had a totally different connotation for the word shag. Lol! I had some really good laughs with people over that license plate!

We know a guy that drives heavy machines, and he has IBDOZIN, for I be dozing, but the way the block letters look, it looks like IBOOZIN! He drives a bright red Jeep 2 door wrangler, and has been pulled over a few times for no apparent reason...he thinks his plate. He likes it, though, and still has it.
I don't have one, but my husband does. He is self-employed, and his pickup is his work truck, so he has our last name as his plate. Our last name is part of his business name, and there's also the business logo and information on the back window.

heck no. I don't want anyone to remember my license plate in the event they are witness to a crime I've committed I have to share this story... A couple months ago one of my DDs FBook friends put out this long rant about a person driving like a jerk and flipping off a school bus full of children. She then shared this man's license plate..... Imagine my daughter's shock when she knew that license plate and that man!! Nobody would believe this kind Christian man would do something like that but the license plate does not lie. I laughed the other day when I saw him driving, he has a tinted cover over his license plate now. ha

No but you do need to pay the higher fee every year to renew them. My plate is personalized. The regular fee to renew your plate is around $50 bucks; I pay $150 each year. That is a scam. Why do they need to charge more for your renewal just because the plate is personalized? In Alberta we pay a one time fee to have the plate made and then pay the same renewal rate as a non personalized plate. And we get 2 license plates for the cost but only need to put one on the vehicle so we have a back up plate if one is damaged without paying again. My DHs car is a numbered 1987 Shelby GLHS so his plate is 87 GLHS.
