I've visited there many times, so I familiar with the general area, but I'm currently looking at a job opportunity based there. I'm not sure if I would take the job, but I'm trying to figure out what area people would recommend living in so I can see what I need to require, salary wise. I'd like to live near the water, but haven't seen a lot of areas I'd want to live in full time near Daytona Beach. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) I'm in my 30s and single. My ideal would be a townhouse, but I'm open to other options. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks!

I'm in Orlando and to me...Daytona is not exactly a place to call home. I would look at either New Smyrna or Ormond Beach if you want to live near the water. Deland is a pretty nice suburb but a bit inland...not too far inland, but definitely not on the beach.

That was sort of my feeling based off of what I've seen, but I wasn't really looking at inland areas, so I wanted to ask if I was missing something. ![](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) I had Ormond on my list. I'll look at New Smyrna as well. thank you!

Honestly, Daytona is pretty much the last beach in the state I go to. I don't the area well, but I wouldn't live in Daytona proper for love or money. If I had a great job offer, I wouldn't turn it down, but would explore some of the communities further down/up the coast like New Smyrna or Ormond Beach.
But again, take what I say with a grain of salt. I am not a fan of Daytona-I live so much closer to the west coast and prefer the gulf beaches.

I know you said you wanted to live near the water but Deland is only 23 miles west of Daytona and about 35 miles north of Orlando so a really nice location in that it's only a short drive to the beach and close enough to also enjoy all that Orlando has to offer. Deland also has one of the nicest, quaint old fashioned downtowns with lots of boutiquy, vintage type stores and cafes and there is always something going on downtown. Doing a quick look for townhome prices and availability it appears as though there are some for sale ranging anywhere from the mid 50's up to 200k depending on the age, size and location as I suppose anywhere is.

My best friend lived in Deland for several years while her husband was in school there. It was a lovely little town, definitely don't count it out.

*KAS* Kelli -- I would say that Daytona is definitely "less popular" for FLA residents than surrounding areas. Like mimi3566 suggested -- both Ormond and New Smyrna Beach areas are nicer for permanent residence. Also, given your demographics, there would not be as many similar "stage in life" residents as you are used to where you are now. But that may not be an issue for you. It certainly is a beautiful area to be and so close to the beaches! (And hey you would be closer to me. ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png) ) Good luck in figuring it all out - very exciting new possibility.

Yeah, Daytona Beach is my least favorite beach in FL. If you want to be on the water, I would look at Ormond Beach. You also might consider something on the intercostal instead of the ocean.
If you don't mind being inland, Deland is nice and close to Daytona.
