We're getting our teen (OMG, how is he a teenager already?) son a Samsung Galaxy phone for his birthday next month--probably the S6, maybe the S7. And we want a tough case for it for obvious reasons. I was looking at Otterbox Defenders, Spigen Tough Armor and Urban Armour but in another thread on here someone mentioned the Lifeproof cases. Waterproof! Excellent! But they're $80!!
I know it's an investment and $80 is nothing compared to the cost of the phone (or the $150 deductible to get a refurbished phone through our insurance), but just want to make sure they're worth it. Do they hold up well? We didn't have the best luck with the Defender for a previous device--it fell apart within 6 months.

The one my son has was only $40 (on Amazon) and he showed me how it works by dunking his phone in a sink full of water and it stayed dry, so I would guess it works as advertised. He decided to get it after talking to a friend who went through a similar circumstance as the other thread-had his phone in his pocket and got pushed into the pool and it killed the phone. After that, my son thought that since we live in a place where there is a pool, ocean, body of water around every corner, he needed something water resistant.
So far, he seems pretty happy with it.
ETA: It was the Lifeproof FRE case, and looking at the invoice and how much it is on Amazon now, I think it must have been some kind of sale because he paid about half of the current listed price

I don't have one, but Lifeproof is one of the cases GMA has tested here (with an iPhone). We use Otterboxes and buy them through Amazon. My kids are usually one phone behind the latest & greatest so the cases are also less expensive than what is out for the newest phones.

Yes the cases are worth it. Also get the newest phone. I made the mistake of making my son get the S5 last year and it's starting to get glitch. Saving a few dollars then is not worth the issues we are having now.

The S6 has neither a removable battery nor the ability to add an SD card. Go with the S7.

Definitely worth it! We all have them for our phones in our house. Great customer service also!

We have them on our iPhones and are seriously in love with them. I do not hesitate to get replace ta when needed. I love that I do not have to be worried about my phone near the pool or hot tub or the beach or even the bath tub! Or, I also don't have to worry about one of my kids throwing it across the room (I'm looking at you 3 year old boy!). ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/Q_m8lDOvc_3Le3r1GKdf.jpg)

Oldest son and I both have the Lifeproof Nuud on our phones, and they've been worth every penny. I'm constantly dropping mine at work, and have never had my phone damaged. He too has dropped his at school a few times, and once in a puddle. No problems ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) .
