We are so dang proud of him! DS is 16 1/2 and is in special ed for the majority of his classes (he suffered a brain injury when he was a yr old). He is such a good kid, really follows the rules and is compassionate to everyone. But because he is delayed it's hard for him to fit in at times. He really wanted a job but I wasn't sure who would hire him because of his delays. The school psych that works with him every week suggested he apply at the Parks and Rec Summer Camp as a helper.
His special ed teacher worked with him on his application, I helped him write a cover letter and the school psych and a family friend wrote him letters of recommendation. They practiced at school on interviewing and last Saturday he went to his interview. He came home POSITIVE he got the job...and Monday afternoon they called to say he got it. We was so exited and so are we. He will work 25 hrs a week all summer. Parks and Rec is a 2 min walk from our house so it's perfect for him.
DS has such an awesome support network at school and home. He really does have a village raising him and I am so grateful for that cause there are times when I fail at parenting him.

That is awesome. My DS 17 sounds just like your son and I hope I'll be able to report back that he also got a summer job. His school is offering a program that helps them with interviewing skills and job training so they'll feel more confident going in. Fingers crossed.

He came home POSITIVE he got the job...and Monday afternoon they called to say he got it. We was so exited and so are we. He will work 25 hrs a week all summer. Parks and Rec is a 2 min walk from our house so it's perfect for him. Aren't you so glad it worked out? When my daughter tries out for a play, I pray she will get *any* part because she's usually POSITIVE she'll get an amazing role.

Your post must've given us some good luck. My daughter got a call from Albertsons to come in for an interview today. She was home and able to get ready in time and got a job offer. Woohoo. It's very close to home and will be perfect for her!
