I can't get these pictures out of my head, a baby was beaten and no arrest was made. story I have to wonder if there's more to the story because I just don't understand how the charges were dropped?

I read about it yesterday and it makes me sick. It really hits close to home too because my youngest son was physically abused by his birth parents when he was 1 year old. The boys were removed, DS suffered brain injury resulting in life long delays, and the abuser spent 4 days behind bars.
There is no excuse for abusing a child and there should be very stiff penalties for it. It amazes me that the charges are dropped because the child can't speak on his behalf. It's a good thing I'm not that babies mom cause the abuser would be in a world of pain right now....

There is a change.org petition about this horrible situation. I'll see if I can track it down exactly. ETA: link Here is the link to the petition.

That law is all sorts of fucked up. Animals can't testify but people are prosecuted for abusing them every day. People who live in Oregon need to be all over the idiots that pushed that law through.

I didn't open it, but there's a similar battle going on right now in my town. The babysitter even admitted it, but she won't be charged because of some previous case that set the precedent that the victim needs to be able to describe their abuse. The child is 1! Makes me angry that we're fighting about bathrooms and other crap when this kind of stuff sits out there, unresolved, and unchampioned.

You know, there are posts about the barbaric laws in the South and people can't fathom living there. This is one of them. No state is immune from stupidity.

This story is so incredibly fucked up. I cannot believe these laws still exist and that justice won't happen for that little baby. What a horrible perso to do such a thing.

This is heartbreaking, but I can't help but think there is something missing from this story. The story I read, the parents came home to the babysitter asleep on the sofa & the baby crying hysterically. The mother claims she didn't see the marks until the next morning. It wasn't reported to police until the following day. So...
1. Baby is crying hysterically & you notice nothing? By the pictures I would almost guarantee that he had some kind of mark that night when the parents came home. 2. Why did they wait to report it?
Something is off on this one. And Oregon does prosecute child abusers, not to the extent I would like, but they do. Just in the news today a woman received 6 months in jail for scolding her 3 year old arms. Not long enough in my book, but that's another story.
I did sign the petition. I hope they get to the bottom of this case & this little guy will be safe. That is all that matters.

I cannot believe a law like that exists. And the perpetrator even confessed to hitting the baby. Shameful. I signed the petition.

Thanks so much for posting the link to the petition RosieKat and for sharing the story Annabella. I'm astounded that a law like this exists in this country. How f'd up is that? If we, as adults, do not sign this petition and speak up for this child, then what kind of people are we? It is our responsibility to do what we can and while not much, this petition is at least a start in the right direction.

When enough citizens are outraged they will rise up and demand change. If you follow the logic of this law, no murderer in Oregon would be punished. After all, the victim wouldn't be able able to testify against them. The law is clearly wrong and needs to be changed.

I'm an Oregonian and I'm not going to defend this law, but the reality is not that child abuse doesn't get prosecuted here.
I feel like there is more to the story that the public doesn't know.

I can't even bear to read the story, the pictures alone make me weep! I can not even imagine the frustration the parents must have felt and continue to feel in this case!

OMG that poor baby. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg) That is horrific. And that law is freaking idiotic. I have a young 3 year old that doesn't yet have the best verbal skills and I'm not sure that even she would be "able to describe the pain suffered". We should be protecting the innocent babies & children & special needs people that can't speak for themselves not this.

It wasn't reported to police until the following day. I think it's possible the babysitter didn't hear the crying baby because he was passed out from substance abuse. Bruises do take a day to show. Can't the 3 year old sister say what happened? I read in another article that she's stopped potty training and is in counseling after witnessing the attack. I'm horrified that someone could attack a baby like that. The District Attorney said he didn't see the pics until they were posted to facebook.

In my opinion, that piece of shit babysitter didn't give a rats ass whether that baby was crying & yes I do believe he was passed out & not asleep. I still believe from the pictures that they little guy would have had some kind of marks that night. The story reported in the local news never made mention of a 3 year old. This board is where I read about him/her. I hope she can shed some light on what happened. I have a 3 year old grandson & he is very verbal, but I do understand that all kids are different. I also think the police department failed somewhere on this case. Why wasn't the DA aware of the pictures taken? Were there pictures taken by an investigator? I would think in a possible abuse case the investigator would have taken pictures. So far, the only pictures we know of were taken by the parents.
