I made rice after dinner last night for tonight's dinner. I realized this morning that it sat out all night on the counter.
Would you eat it or toss it?

Rice is one of the most common carriers of food poisoning. I'd get rid (and I keep a lot more than most on these type of threads).

Just rice? I would eat it. (Admittedly, I would eat almost anything, but this I wouldn't even hesitate to give to my kids). Eat it, you'll be fine.

I'm one who feels if you have to ask anyone other than yourself, the answer is no.
Anything that normally goes into the fridge after dinner and ends up getting left out overnight gets tossed.

To be on the safe side, I would toss it in the freezer and use it to make fried rice at a later date.

Toss. Rice is a nightmare. I am quite chilled about this stuff. But with rice you need to careful.

Bin it. Rice is cheap and you can easily cook more.

I've kept rice in a rice cooker out on the counter a million times over and have eaten it up to 2 days later just as long as it's been cool in the room. if it was a warm inside and overnight, the rice is more likely to spoil faster and then I probably would not.

I guess I would have kept it if I could nuke it to a really hot temp without burning it. Dh usually is the one who handles our food safety because he worked with bacteria and viruses so he can be the final say. If I had to toss it I'd compost it so I wouldn't feel bad about creating garbage, it's not so much the cost of rice.

Rice is cheap, I'd toss. It would be all dried out and nasty even if it wasn't spoiled.

I had no idea rice was so risky. I typically only thought that about meat mostly.

Whenever these threads come up I invariably answer yes, eat it, but not this time, not rice.

I would have eaten it, but I had no idea rice held onto bacteria like that. Once again, the Peas educate and inform!

It turns out that you're right. Rice and food poisoning.Rice is relatively inexpensive. It's not worth getting sick over it. Discard it and be safe.

I would have tossed it. But, I never save rice anyway, I don't like it reheated.

Why risk it? It's rice? Cheap and easy to make more of.

Into the trash it would go - rice is so cheap it wouldn't even be a blip on my radar. Heck, I rarely save leftover rice unless I have specific plans for it.

Toss it. Our nights are warm now and I wouldn't feel comfortable eating anything that would have been left out in 80 degree temps for 8+ hours. Plus rice gets crusty and gross when it's left out. It's cheap so I'd just assume make more later. I didn't either! I've been wondering why everyone was talking about rice being dangerous. The things I learn here.

I had no idea rice was so risky. Thanks for the knowledge everyone. I wouldn't have eaten it anyway just since it would have been all dried out and crusty and like others said it's cheap to make more.
