This kid had his last day of school today. Friday he walks across that stage to graduate. I may have hugged him to tight and to long and I may or may not have cried. Then my friggen in laws showed up a day early and I may have cried more. I'm trying to cook 80# of pork butt, my kitchen looks like it puked all over. I have things to get done and she starts talking about her family reunion. I said then you'll want to talk to DH. She said well he told me to talk to you. I said I don't know what info he thinks I have... But I don't. I'm planning your grandsons grad party. I can't even think about your personal party until we are done with grad stuff Saturday night. Ugh. UPDATE: We survived the ceremony. It was awesome. 375 seniors. I cried. My MIL would like to know what DH's cousins sleeping arrangements are. If you remember she told the cousin she could just stay here. I said NO. Well MiL never told cousin she wasn't staying here. DH says how would I know? She's not staying here, I told you that and I told you to tell her. So now MIL is pissed. I piped up and said, she's a grown ass woman, she can't make her own arrangements?

Who shows up a day early? You had no idea they were coming? Wow, just..wow.
I think I'd clear them off a chair, give 'em a glass of iced tea and turn them over to their son..
I almost said surely they don't expect anything more from you, but obviously his mom does.
Wow.

That would totally send me over the edge. Waaaaay over. Time to make it clear to the DH that they are his responsibility until after the graduation party. And beyond, actually. And trollie is right - that's one good looking son you've got there! L

MIL's family reunion (DH was supposed to handle this. She came to talk to you. Bite me).

You have PEA-LIVID reasons.... Oh I'm PEA-LIVID alright. She gave us no warning of her early arrival at all. I still had all my daycare kids here running around. No dinner plans because we were cleaning and cooking pork butts. I'm so mad at DH right now I could scream. After they left to head to their hotel for the night I ripped into DH. I honestly don't have time for their crap. Gah. I opened a bottle of wine and didn't share.

You have every right to be upset, that is soooo not right. Hopefully dh understands why you are so upset and will step up and help.
I echo the above posters, your son is very handsome. Congrats on his graduation.

Put them to work. There must be onions to dice or veggies to cut up. Let them help clean. Vacuuming, dusting, etc is easy enough even in laws can do it.

Sounds like you need to make another store run, this time for wine or liquor.
As much as I like MIL, if DH pulled that with me, I'd be drinking wine pretty quickly!

Oh my, I forgot about this - reunion the day after graduation, right? Your MIL is a nightmare. I think YOU should be checking into the hotel.
Your son is very handsome. Congratulations to the graduate.

Of course you can whine. And I like the ideas of putting a rudely early guest to work and/or going to a hotel yourself.

Cry and hug all you want, and remember he will always be your little boy. Even when a wife takes him away.
Try to enjoy his graduation! I know he's super proud.

At least she's staying in a hotel, that's a bright spot. YAY that you have things for her to do. Your son is so handsome, congratulations, Mom, for helping him get to this point in his life!!

Congratulations to your handsome boy. Your mil sounds not at all charming. Who just shows up a day early? That's just wrong. I vote for a store run to get more wine for yourself for the next few days. If possible, tune out your mil and enjoy your son's milestone.

Ok I just wanted to *clarify* with you that for the reasons stated above - you did not mention you had a house full of daycare kids running around being 'kids' that yeah Pea Livid status is more than deserved. You also can announce that you are Pea Livid and you will get more sympathy and maybe even offers to help you cook or prepare food, herd cats kids and commiserate with your emotional anguish. High school graduation is so monumental. I don't care what anyone says, he is your baby, he is walking on the stage and it's your night as Mom to gloat. You did a good job, Mom. Be ever so proud of your darling son! xoxox

Apparently while visiting other family someone said something that made them mad so they left. They drove in from UT. We are in Iowa. They didn't bother to call and give us a heads up. They thought it would be fun to surprise us. I'm gonna go on record and say that was NOT fun at all.

Good looking graduate you have there. Congratulations!
One more thing to file under "Things to Never Do to My Future DIL". Your MIL is a pill. I'd be too exhausted after graduation to lift a finger to help with the reunion issue. DH can handle her.

I'd be so pissed! I'd let my husband have it too, poor guy. Put them to work or have you husband escort them out and keep them busy. I know when I have a lot to do, I just want to be alone to get it done and not have people in my way.
