I have never taken any type of diet pill but I need something to suppress my appetite.... Has anyone ever taken these? Are there side effects? Do they help? I've also heard they are addicting....any info is welcome!!! TIA!

I have no experience with Acixion, I just wanted to say that you sure don't look like you need to suppress your appetite from your photo there. You look beautiful. Don't you see what I see?

That picture was from 3 years ago after I lost 30 pounds that I have since gained back.... I am finding it more difficult as I get older to control my appetite and lose weight....I'm just so tired of always being hungry...

A very quick google search says it's a prescription drug, and I get the impression it's an amphetimine. This could be wrong, though. Have you discussed this with your doctor?

No I haven't talked with my doctor yet... Just thinking about things right now and thought I could get some opinions...

they sell them in mexico, the equivalent in the U.S. is phentermine. i took them for a while, and lost about 30 pounds. the side effects are dry mouth, headache and constipation. Your Dr. won't write a script for this brand, you will have to ask for phentermine. it comes in a 37.5 tablet, and a 30mg capsule (YELLOW). my dr would only give me a 3 month script, i cut them in half for the first month, and took it right around noon. they really suppress your appetite.

I took phentermine about 20 years ago. It worked well by using it and I can't remember how long i stayed on it but I lost the weight. I know it made me a little more thirsty and a little wound when it must have been in full effect. I found the side effects minimal and doable.

I'm in the same boat as you, danid. I lost 125 pounds and then gained back about 30 over the last few years. I could NOT lose the weight again, as I was constantly hungry. My doctor gave me a prescription for Phentermine and almost instantaneously my cravings and hunger vanished. Like other posters have said, it does cause dry mouth, but that's okay, because it makes you drink a lot of water throughout the day. I haven't experienced any jitters or nervousness, but it can keep you awake at night. I take one 37.5 mg pill mid-morning and haven't had any problems sleeping at night. The best thing is that without the hunger and cravings, I'm re-learning proper portion control and eating much healthier foods, because I no longer crave the junk! Definitely have a talk with your doctor and get his/her thoughts. Good luck!

One of my best friends took phentermine a few years ago. She lost 80 lbs and was never hungry. She calls it her wonder pill. Her doctor required monthly blood tests and office visits because of all the side effects that are associated with it.
I will mention that she gained all the weight back and then some after she stopped taking it. Suppressing an appetite does nothing to help form healthy habits to keep weight off.

You first need to check with your doctor before doing anything. I don't recommend pills because it is a temporary fix, like diet shakes. I recommend going vegan and eating as much fruit and veggies as you want, LOL!

The general manager where I work has a Rx for phentermine but he doesn't like to take them. The couple times he did take them, he said he couldn't eat at ALL (which isn't healthy either) and couldn't sleep for literally DAYS. There's no way I would take something that could do that to me... it's too scary to think about possible side effects like that.
Just wanted to throw this out there; there are other FDA-approved drugs that can help with weight loss by controlling cravings... I'm taking Contrave which is a combination of Buproprion (an anti-anxiety drug that's used to help stop smoking) and Naltrexone (which blocks drugs / sugar from giving you the 'high' feeling that makes you want more). This drug has helped me immensely; I don't get nearly as many cravings for processed foods as I used to and if I do happen to eat them on occasion, they don't make me want MORE because I don't get the mental "rush" from them that I used to.
Contrave helps control my cravings so I can replace the unhealthy eating habits with healthier ones.

I am pretty surprised any doctor would write a script for anyone who was only 30lbs overweight! I know for a fact mine wouldn't

Diet pills don't work. Diets don't work. What happens when you stop using these things when you have lost the weight? 90% of the time you gain the weight you've lost back again and then some. I know because I've done it too over and over. I had clothes in my closet from sizes S through XL. I didn't always have problems with my weight but during a 10 year battle with clinical depression the medications I took caused me to gain weight. My weight went up and down through those years. 4 years ago I was 186 pounds on my short 5 foot 3 inch frame and I felt horrible-slow, tired and especially tired of being fat. I decided to take my health into my own hands. I quit soda, junk food and fast food. Next I quit all processed food by following www.100daysofrealfood.com This website and facebook page tells you how to choose the healthiest foods, how to learn to read labels (forget what it says on the front of the package and read the ingredient list) and more. I dropped 17 pounds and stayed there. I have hypothyroid plus I was in the middle of menopause so my metabolism was at a crawl. But I was losing. One night I was watching TV. flipping through Netflix when I came across the documentary "Forks over Knives". I watched it out of curiosity and literally sat there with my mouth open thinking,"it can't be this easy". The next night I got DH to watch it with me and we agreed to give this way of eating-a whole foods plant based (vegan) diet (not diet as in temporary, but diet as in style of food) a try for 28 days. We did and we felt so amazing and loved the food so much we just kept going. It's been 2 years this past February. In January I hit my goal weight of 124 pounds. In total I have lost 62 pounds and it was so easy. I didn't exercise at all because well, 1. I'm lazy and 2. I need surgery this past year on my shoulder and it's taken a long time to heal. I do realize the importance of exercise though and hope to start as soon as I get clearance on my shoulder. This style of eating (whole foods, plant based diet) is incredibly easy and the weight literally fell off my body. I feel amazing-full of energy and it feels incredible to fit back into all of my size S clothes again. I will eat this way for the rest of my life and I think that is what is key. Restrictive diets fail because one can't stay on them for the long run. Once you go back to eating the typical American diet you gain weight again. Counting calories doesn't work unless you want to do that the rest of your life, and really who wants to live that way? By eating this way I never count a calorie. I eat until I am full because whole plant foods fill up my stomach much faster than the empty calories of the typical American diet. It's all explained extremely well in the film "Forks over Knives" which is still available on Netflix. Debbie in MD.

Have you tried a natural thing like chromium? Does wonders for me after about six weeks. No more sweet cravings.

I wouldn't think that you need medication to lose weight, but you'll need patience and the attitude that it's all about self love. You will lose slowly, but if you practice good habits and exercise you'll keep it off, which is much harder. Patience is a lot more natural and healthy than drugs. Though, patience means suffering through the changes. You could lose it on your own, but you'll have to commit to it and be willing to feel deprived until you get used to healthier changes. As for vegan meals, you can be a low fat vegan, but a lot of vegans gain weight because of high fat meals, too. You can do this. It's all about mindful eating and willingness to suffer a bit for the greater good. If you have emotional eating issues then working out your feelings, dealing w/past trauma is often the best way to lose weight. Just food for thought. I wish you the best.
