I was on The Big Island a few years ago and we went out for dinner to this restaurant right on the water. The food was amazing and so much of it! Given the choice I would eat there again with my mom and dad and make my son go, too! I could do without the sunburn, though.

I love museums and torture my family by making them go with me on my birthday . We are close enough to Los Angeles that it is an easy day trip to spend a few hours at the LACMA, Getty, etc,, and then do something else. Everyone gets to help plan the day and the biggest debate is deciding where to eat.

melly ,,,,what did you end up doing? I am jealous of ANY of you who mentioned being near ANY kind of water!!! Although my fave is the ocean, I love to swim in rivers and lakes, too! I'd love to spend mine at the beach......riding waves, playing in the sand (LOVE building sand cities!), and reading !!!!!!!! Annnd, even though it'd be fun with DH, my sisters, and/or my 2 best friends, I can actually imagine going by myself and having a blast, too. But IF it was possible, I'd choose to go with my baby brother who died 7 years ago---the beach & boardwalk at night was our FAVORITE place ever !!! Even as adults, we'd ride waves for HOURS and build "sand cities" in the sand, and NO ONE makes me laugh like he did!!! I fell out of my beach chair a few times! And for my peeps that have been to **Rehoboth/ Dewey / Bethany** in Delaware-----those are my beaches of choice! Those are where we have awesome childhood and adult memories!!! DH, my Dad, and other brother plan on going NEXT summer, and I can NOT wait !!! jcm28 ---- Sorry about you having only ONE party in your life! That is sad! Have you ever considered throwing one in June or July, calling it a "half-birthday" party? I have heard of many people doing this! I also think it's a great idea since most people are so busy traveling and alll that other stuff from Thanksgiving to New Years. My older brother's birthday is Dec. 15th, and growing up, that was our day to put up the tree & decorations, and it was always fun, AND my Mom always made him his fave birthday dinner and cheesecake---BUT----later, as an adult, he admitted he didn't like it at all, but was too afraid to tell our Mom! He says he would've LOVED to have his birthday celebrated totally separate from ANYthing Christmas-related! Then he had a son whose bday is Dec. 19th----he and my sil have always made his bday totallllly separate!

I had a nearly perfect birthday this year. My husband planned a spur of the moment trip for us to go see our son in Chicago. My birthday fell on a Saturday and we attended my first ever game at Wrigley Field. The Cubbies beat the Nationals 9-2. It was 82 degrees in Chicago in early May! We went to a bar afterwards and sat outside and celebrated the Cubs win and the beautiful weather with what seemed like the entire City of Chicago!
I couldn't have asked for anything better-it just all fell in place this year.

My birthday is very near Christmas. I had a grand total of one birthday party as a kid. I was usually out of school on break for my birthday. Often my birthday present was wrapped in Christmas paper. I would like to say that it doesn't bother me, but it does.
Now we usually just go out to eat. DH usually does very well in getting me something I really want i.e. Ipad, fancy camera, etc. so no complaints there. But I would like a party on my birthday just one more time.
Wow, that sounds really sad, doesn't it?
Janet I'm near Christmas, too, so I hear you! I love to take a little weekend trip as well. ... beach, forest, mountains, I don't care where!

This sounds terrible but I'd love to be left alone. Totally and utterly alone. My bday is in January and it's the busiest time of year at work. I haven't really celebrated other than a dinner out since I started this job 19 years ago.

Janet My birthday is right before Christmas too. If I could do whatever I wanted I'd go to Paris and goo to the Louvre and easy a ton of pastries. However since I'm sure the weather will be dreadful and it's tough to travel then, we won't do it. I once went to Disneyland for their free birthday promotion that year and it was so crowded since it was the Saturday before Christmas. I felt like a sardine. This year who knows, maybe dinner out?

I don't know what I want to do on my birthday this year. I'm just sort of glad I'm going to be here for it. Last year that was not a given but I keep on trucking along. I already did my bucket list trip to see Hamilton in April and since my birthday is in July I'd really like to spend some time on the beach (my favorite place) but I'm not sure where to go. My cousin lives in Fairhope, AL and wants us to come see her and spend time in a condo on the beach there. But it's really far to drive and I don't know if I want to spend the money to fly us all again this year on another vacation. The beaches there are beautiful but I might settle for South Padre. I could sit on the beach and listen to the ocean for pretty much ever.

I took my kids to swim lessons in the morning, then went and wandered around a beautiful garden nursery for about an hour. Both of my kids picked out a plant (12 year old DS chose a jade plant for his bedroom, 4 year old DS chose some neon pink leafy plant for his dinosaur garden outside.) I got a cool houseplant then we went to Frost donut shop and each chose out a fancy donut or cupcake for my birthday dessert, and macarons for the ride home. For dinner, my husband went and got 5 Guys burgers so I didn't have to cook. It was a very nice birthday thanks for asking!

If I could do anything..... A) Spend the day on the beach in St. Barth's with my husband, sister,mum,bff..all the most important people in my life. Sailing, lots of frozen margaritas, napping in a giant hammock, laying on the beach reading, super fresh seafood..... or B) Spend the day in Paris just me and my husband. Sleep in, morning uumm fun adult time , then spend the day on foot in Paris like we used to do....going wherever the day takes us....do a little shopping, have some great food, take some silly pictures and lots of fun adult time...making sure our room has a balcony and view of the Tour Eiffel so we can sit there after dark sipping champagne enjoying the view.

In 2017 I'm turning 50 and will be heading to northern Sweden in hopes of seeing an aurora on my birthday! It also happens to fall on Thanksgiving that year so it will be a little strange to be in a place where it's just your average Thursday and also to be away from my family for the holiday.
