My birthday is on Saturday and my husband keeps asking me what I'd like to do. I can't think of anything much! Honestly, I'd just love to sleep in a little, have a relaxing day with no kids whining, not have to cook dinner, and maybe go on a little hike or something. We have no money to do anything with, but that's ok! I thought it would be fun to see what you all would choose to do, if you could celebrate your birthday any way you wanted?

I would like to go to the beach. I'd hunt for shells and spend all day laying in the sand reading.

I think it would be a blast to take our Granddaughters on their first plane ride and go to Disney World and see some family who haven't met them yet. What a fantastic birthday that would be, to see Disney through their eyes. And I miss my family.

Sleep....sleep some more.....and more sleep I feel I have been sleep deprived since DS17 was born. And no cooking or cleaning that day would be a bonus.

My 51st birthday is in a couple of weeks. I want a day to myself in my studio to just paint and play. We just got back from 9 days at the beach so I am good there. Have a blessed birthday, and I hope you find something fun for you!

I think most members here would understand this. I want to meet with an online friend who I 'met' on a widow/widowers website two years ago. We talk daily, and have become really good friends. I live in Indiana and she lives in California. We're planning on a little vacation together this summer. We're thinking Vegas or Chicago.

On the weekend closest to my birthday we always go to the beach for the day. I sit on the sand, walk the boardwalk and eat peanut butter ice cream. It's a tradition, not only do I enjoy so do my DH and boys. On the day of my birthday my boys (who are 12 and 7) always want to take me out to Red Robin. Not sure why, it's not my favorite place to go, but somehow it became tradition.

My "anything I wanted" answer would be a trip to Paris.
My reality is more like an enjoyable evening with family and friends!

I would like to go to the beach. I'd hunt for shells and spend all day laying in the sand reading. My mom takes me to the beach every year for the week of my birthday. It is a very, very, very favorite tradition and pretty much the only thing I want to do for my birthday. I will be 50 this year and she asked if I want a party instead of the beach. Um...NO. Beach please.

I went to a tiny town with a hot springs for my birthday this year. I went by bus, so cheap, and hotels are cheap there too, and I spent a lovely 3 days soaking and relaxing and not talking to anyone. That is my kind of birthday!

My birthday is in the autumn so it's always too cold to do what I want to do: Make a picnic lunch, go to the mountains, and wade in a creek chasing crawdads. Summer is my favorite season just for the time I can spend in a cold mountain creek!

Last year I had the most awesome birthday. Both of my college girls were home and we biked on a trail and went to a yoga class that was held in the park with a brunch included afterwards. By the time we got home we had ridden 20 miles (I hadn't ridden my bike in years!) After that we had a beer in our backyard. We went to our cottage in the afternoon and floated around on the lake. That night my husband made dinner and my daughters made a carrot cake from scratch. That is my idea of a perfect day.

My birthday is Saturday also. Happy birthday to you. This week a very dear friend took me to the lake (erie). We have been staying at a cottage on the lake. Eating our meals by the water. Doing wine tours via a party bus during the day. Swimming, enjoying the beautiful weather. WATCHING the sunsets. Meeting some really cool people. And mostly laughing till my ribs hurt. It has been one of my favorite birthdays thus far. Today is our last day here ?.

My birthday is very near Christmas. I had a grand total of one birthday party as a kid. I was usually out of school on break for my birthday. Often my birthday present was wrapped in Christmas paper. I would like to say that it doesn't bother me, but it does.
Now we usually just go out to eat. DH usually does very well in getting me something I really want i.e. Ipad, fancy camera, etc. so no complaints there. But I would like a party on my birthday just one more time.
Wow, that sounds really sad, doesn't it?

My birthday is also in the dead of winter so if I could do anything, it would be to go somewhere warm. Disneyworld, Disneyland, Disney Cruise--your choice! Next year DH and I both turn 50 so we're thinking about it and tentatively planning to go.
Since that's not an every year option, my second choice would be to go to a scrapping retreat with some friends the weekend AFTER my birthday (or some other weekend, because unpredictable weather in winter can sometimes ruin the best laid plans). I like to spend the actual day with my family.

I have loved reading all the responses so far! It is turning out to be a rainy weekend, so I doubt I will get a birthday hike in... Oh well! We will find something fun to do at home! Janet Janet, I hope you get your party on your birthday one day! My sister's birthday is 4 days after Christmas, and my son's birthday is December 26th! My other son's birthday is earlier in December as well. I always make sure to treat their birthdays as a separate celebration, with different decorations and wrapping paper than the Christmas stuff. I'm glad that your husband makes it special with a great gift, at least

Last year, I turned 40 and my DH planned a great party for me. All my family and my closest friends came. And we just had the best time eating and drinking and socializing. I wish I could have a birthday party every year.

I like birthday events, like musicals or a concert or a baseball game. My best birthday was the year we sat in great seat at a ballgame and watched our team win.

Janet Janet, I feel for you. My birthday is near Thanksgiving , so I received my birthday present from my Mom whenever Thanksgiving occurred rather than on my birthday as an adult our oldest son's birthday is Dec 21. As a child, we celebrated his Unbirthday on June 21 with party, cake, the works. When he reached 16, he asked to celebrate his Dec. date.

My birthday is next weekend, and dh and I are spending 4 days in Palm Springs. No actual plans, just reading, swimming, sleeping, shopping, eating--the only thing we won't do that we usually would is to go golfing. It's been a crazy, crazy busy month with a major volunteer experience, and golf actually sounds like too much work right now, lol! I don't like parties or a big fuss about my birthday, so the years that I've been able to be on vacation during it have been perfect for me!

I'd like to have a relaxing day, go to dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant and have a momarita, and go home to a clean house.

I'd go to Pensacola and hang out by or on the beach all day. I don't even have to be on the sand. A view from a condo balcony would do.

My birthday usually falls when I am traveling for work during tax season so having the day off would be ideal for me in the past. But since I am leaving public accounting that won't be an issue going forward.

For me it would be not a whole lot of anything. I'm not into birthday celebrations and being the center of attention makes me very uncomfortable. I think I'd curl up and die if someone threw me a surprise party.
If I had a summer birthday, then maybe a day at the beach and dinner at a Mexican restaurant overlooking the ocean, but, I have a winter birthday, so instead it would just be dinner.

long complicated option: Spend 7-10 days diving the great barrier reef and photographing it. simple option: A few days at a hotel in Santa Cruz playing in the ocean, photographing the tide pools at Natural Bridges PEArfect I am doing a similar thing in June. Im meeting a lady who I also met on a widowed peoples site. We have been friends for 3+ years. Im excited to meet her in person finally. I have another friend in Canada from the same site and visiting her is also on my list to do hopefully this year. Good luck on your trip It will be fun!
