My brother in law passed away and I need to do up some flyers for the burial service/gathering. He didn't have many friends and my husband was his last surviving relative. Not married/kids. Unfortunately he left us with no money to bury him but he was a veteran (army) and at least a few things are done by the military department but I am having to cut corners any way I can for expenses. Any ideas on what I can do for flyers or guest book? Think his army picture would be good for the picture for burial site? it was from 30 years ago.

Do you have Pages for Mac or MS Word? If so, there are templates already created where you can drop in pictures of your BIL and include whatever information you'd like for the guests to know. I think you're wanting to do a very nice gesture and I'm sorry for your loss.

Get in touch with Veterans Administration and/or any of the service associations such as; VFW, American Legion, DAV, just to name a few. They will help you, he is entitled to a burial with dignity.

I am sorry for your loss. If you choose to not have a viewing or funeral service at a funeral home, that can save quite a bit of $. My limited experience for burial at a military cemetery was that it was tightly scheduled and there wasn't time for a full service, although there was an honor guard.
A flyer/remembrance page can be easily printed on letter-size cardstock or you can do a layout so it is more like a folder. If you have access to a laser printer, it will be cheaper than an ink jet printer.
As for a guest book, you can buy nice, but more expensive books at Hallmark, but sometimes they have them at less expensive stores like Dollar Tree. Unfortunately, they are usually for weddings and are white. It would be easy enough to put together some blank pages of cardstock/pretty paper with a light background cut in half and turn that into a guest book. If you already have a half-size binder on hand, you already have the makings of a nice memory book.
If the military was important to your BIL, then by all means use that photo.

Thanks for your input. yes we are just doing the cemetery 20 min service. tightly scheduled is right. 20 min most is all we can do. making a flyer now. Am going to do his picture on a table at a gathering afterwards as a restaurant by cemetery. I think I might do memory vase instead of a guest book where people can write out their favorite memory and I can make a little album for my husband for later.
