It seems fatherhood has softened him up a bit. It was so fun to see him actually laughing and joking with contestants and the judges.
When he was talking to that Rose lady (dancer), I thought he was going to pee himself laughing.
What at a refreshing change.

Yes. My husband said, "what happened to Simon?" I told him he is a dad and that must have softened him up.
Nice show. That 13 year old opera singer gave me goosebumps

She can work a fringed dress like no other!

Glad to hear this I don't usually watch this show, but recorded it because I really like Simon

I don't know how much is fatherhood and how much is just success and being happy with where he is in life. He's been more amiable on nearly every talent show I've watched him in that aired over there whether it be seasons of X-Factor or BGT. That said, I think he's generally found the middle ground now between being absolutely useless as a judge and patting everyone on the back (like nearly everyone else I've seen him work with) and being painfully honest and constructive. I also think American audiences want everyone to win or get an award for showing up and never want to make the hard call. Sometimes it seemed to me like he was the only voice of reason on the show. But I think the media here loved to hate on him and having a "bad guy" helped with ratings.
Talent shows can't be all puppy dogs and rainbows, most of these people are absolute crap and their families and friends have done them a great disservice by encouraging them otherwise. If they get embarrassed and can't take the criticism, then they probably would never make it in showbiz anyway and should drop the denial about how "great and misunderstood" they are. I've not always agreed with how brutal he can be but clearly some people need a smack upside the head of "hey, this isn't gonna work out for you, stop wasting your life on this dream, and get a regular job so you can feed your kids."
I'm glad if he's happy and successful but hope he doesn't lose his edge.
Sidenote: his glee over the dancing Storm troopers on BGT was hilarious.

He was constructive last night, but I'd never seen the joy he showed last night before. HE was literally snorting while trying to talk to this woman. It was so funny. I like how honest he is too, but he used to be so brutal and cruel and now I find he is more like a guiding voice rather than someone that just wants to look like a dick. I like the new Simon. He still has his moments last night and he was honest with those who needed it. But to see him laughing like that, made me smile.

I am so glad he is back on American TV. Loving his softer side!
I really enjoyed last night's show. The opera singer gave me goose bumps as well and loved the tape guy and the fellow from Japan. Rose cracked me up she had moves lol. I could not watch the guy shoving crap up his nose . The last bit was hilarious Heidi is a nut.

I always liked Simon and can appreciate his softer side. I don't mind him on this show, but I have to admit, I miss Howard Stern. I'm also hoping that the go back to featuring more "equal time" with the judges as I especially like Howie Mandel and Mel B, and it seems like the focus on Simon and what he had to say last night was really large.

I'm glad I can record it and ff through parts of it. I want to see acts. I don't want to see the judges do a bunch of skits and I especially don't want to see Nick Cannon. I couldn't believe they put the hook nose guy through.

We were prepared to hate Howard Stern but we really liked him. But it bugged me how he was so adamant about that Emily West a couple of seasons ago, and then come to find out they were friends and she had been with Capitol Records and released an album already. And guested on a tv show. I thought it was for people who were trying to get into show business, not ones that had already been there.

I said the same thing last night, that fatherhood made him nicer. I thought it was an all-around great show.

When we sat down to watch the show I told my DH what my initial impression of Simon was (not having ever watched American Idol nor anything else he has been on) and I was pleasantly surprised to see him NOT be a big jerk. I actually liked his judging!
