Hi Everyone, Many of you requested another poem from Dave, so I'm back with another one... AND BONUS... a song! If you click here you will be taken to youtube to see a video of DH playing a song he wrote for me. It is about facing terminal illness with a partner, looking back on the storms and the sunshine and the beauty of a relationship that stands the test of time. I would love to hear feedback about both, so don't be shy (like you would be anyway, haha). And if you like it, feel free to share with those who have gone through (or are currently going through) something like this. Thank you! The River by David A. Smith
Multitudes stream though her force Some broken and bruised by boulders Others are merely scratched Some swim upstream for what’s been lost A time, place, or loved one They cannot go back The river pushes them forward Some thrust frantically In droves they flail and race Some move ahead Others fall back and tire She takes back the old and the weak Yet sometimes the strong and the reckless Some leave with fury and splash While others drift softly away I love her in all of her beauty Though I bear the scars of her boulders And though I am young and cautious My body is weak and failing… The River will take me back… The River is taking me back…

Lovely video Such beautiful words. I'm not familiar with your story, and was wondering---is he in a lot of pain? And if so, does writing & singing help him a lot? I'm so sorry that he has cancer!!! ((( hugs )))) @mikklyn ....So very sorry about your DH !!!! ((( hugs ))))

I watched and shared the video. What a sweet sentiment to his love for you. Made me cry for sure! I lost my dad to cancer some time ago but the love he had for my mom was similar (although not as easily reciprocated).

((( hugs )))) @mikklyn ....So very sorry about your DH !!!! ((( hugs )))) Right now he has temperature regulation issues and fatigue and muscle atrophy issues. When he was making the video, he was having a rough day and "didn't feel right." But he was determined to get it done because he wasn't sure how many more good days he will have left It's not pain per se at this point. The backstory is that he was diagnosed in December of 2014 with incurable metastatic colon cancer and is toward the end of viable treatment options right now.
