Hi Everyone,
Many of you requested another poem from Dave, so I'm back with another one... AND BONUS... a song!
If you click here you will be taken to youtube to see a video of DH playing a song he wrote for me. It is about facing terminal illness with a partner, looking back on the storms and the sunshine and
the beauty of a relationship that stands the test of time.
I would love to hear feedback about both, so don't be shy
(like you would be anyway, haha).

The River by David A. Smith
Multitudes stream though her force
Some broken and bruised by boulders
Others are merely scratched
Some swim upstream for what’s been lost
A time, place, or loved one
They cannot go back
The river pushes them forward
Some thrust frantically
In droves they flail and race
Some move ahead
Others fall back and tire
She takes back the old and the weak
Yet sometimes the strong and the reckless
Some leave with fury and splash
While others drift softly away
I love her in all of her beauty
Though I bear the scars of her boulders
And though I am young and cautious
My body is weak and failing…
The River will take me back…
The River is taking me back…
