Crap! I got it out as fat as I could. took the case off and dried it off. It's an iPhone. I am so mad at myself. I keep it in my back pocket at work and usually take it out before (you know) but I was distracted. I know it turns on because it did when I was taking the case off.
But I am worried about speakers, long term damage, other stuff. Ugh the stress. I got it in September.

Do not turn it back on! Dry it as much as possible and hope for the best.

Leave it alone. You could try putting it in rice. Let it sit. I'd probably leave it alone until Sunday at the earliest. I'm guessing the longer it sits the better.

That happened to me about a month ago. I used the insurance I have on the phone and had it replaced. I decided I've paid into this insurance since 1999 when I got my first cellphone and it was time to reap some rewards for all the money I've paid them.

It will be so hard not to use it. I have some type of insurance but I will have to check with DH when I get home. Does rice help iPhones? I know rice helped the old cell phones when we used to take the batteries out.

I going to do the rice thing with mine but after reading up on it, it sounded like a temporary solution. Sure it may work for a bit but the water gets into the circuits and will start corroding them. I figured I've paid for insurance for 17 years time to use it.

Luckily, like you, I was able to retrieve it immediately (from clean toilet water!). I turned it off, removed it from the case and placed it in a container of rice for 24 hours. That was two and half years ago and I still have and use that same phone. (It is an iPhone 5s) Good luck!!!

we used rice on a phone and kindle, and both survived. hard to say that they did *because* of the rice, but it can't hurt.

I won't be able to get it into rice until I get home from work but hopefully my outcome will be the same as yours. Fingers crossed. I like my phone and don't want to go back to my old one.
I called DH and he thinks we have insurance. I think we do on his phone but I have a feeling I was quite smug that that day and told him that I take care of my things and don't need the "extended" coverage. Karma-and I'm not even a believer.

Boy do I know how that feels. I've done the same thing more than once. You'd think I would have learned my lesson the hard way.
Unfortunately I didn't have any luck with the rice trick, but thankfully I had insurance.
Just wanted you to know that you are not alone in the toilet dunk.

Two nights ago, I unknowingly set my phone face down into a small puddle of water on my kitchen table. It was there for a few minutes before I picked it up and noticed the screen was wet. I dried it and opened an app and saw a cloud under the screen. I turned off the phone and put it in a plastic container filled with rice. Left it there until last evening. I powered it on a couple times to see if we were making any progress. The gray which had covered about 30% of the screen was dried and gone by this morning.
I would try the rice with your phone, but since it was submerged, you probably had a lot more water get in than mine. You can also try DampRid (from Home Depot/Lowes etc) or silica gel packets. Be careful because rice can and does get in to the charging port (I picked it out with a toothpick)
We are replacing mine today since ATT has BOGO on the 6s and DD is due for a new phone anyway, so we're taking advantage of the deal. I don't want to take the chance the my phone will die from residual water damage after the deal is over. ATT will still accept this on trade. Actually, DH told them there was water damage so they are aware, but unless you opened up the inside guts of the phone, you wouldn't know from looking at it.
Good luck! I am so careful with my phone, yet random stupid shit still happens...

Sorry just seeing this. I'm not sure how many to use. I only had one silica packet that I threw in with the rice. I've never changed out the rice, but you probably have a lot more moisture than I did. The boards on the apple.com that were helpful. I ended up there after googling solutions.

I know this goes without saying, but accidents happen. Get a LifeProof case. They aren't cute, but boy do they work.

It's been off since about 30 minutes after it happened. I used 2 silica packets and now it's sitting in rice. DS said not to turn it on for 72 hours.

Sometimes the rice works and sometimes it doesn't. The fact that it DID come on after it was wet is a good sign I think.
I dropped my phone in a full bathtub last week. I quickly grabbed it out. It never turned off and actually seemed to be working. Then I remembered that you're supposed to turn it off immediately when it's wet, so I quickly turned it off, took it apart and dried it (surprisingly it looked like very little water got inside). I put the phone, the case and the battery in a ziploc bag with about four silica packets. I left it there for 72 hours. It was very difficult not to try it after 24 or so, but the stuff I read said 72 hours, so that's how long I left it. I've been using it for several days or so now and everything is working absolutely fine! There is hope!!

This happened to me with my new 6. I put it in uncooked rice for three days and bingo- turned back on like a champ.
Good luck!

Yikes! Hopefully the rice trick works for you!
I dropped my iPhone into the pedicure bowl when getting my toes done. Fully submerged before I could scoop it up. I shook it out, and looked and it worked so I went straight home and added it to a bag of rice (I never turned it off because, well, I was afraid it wouldnt turn back on. After about 2 days I pulled it out of the rice and have been using it since then!
Good Luck!

Same thing happened to my iPhone. I put it in a bag of rice for about 36 hours or so. Works perfectly fine now!
