DH and I are leaving for Virginia Beach in the morning. We will be staying at a campground about 2 miles from the beach and will be there for 5 nights. This will be our first trip to Virginia beach. Any places to put on our Do Not Miss list? We enjoy parks, museums, historical sites, good places to eat. We tend to enjoy more laid back places.
We will be staying at the HOLIDAY TRAV-L-PARK on General Booth BLVD. We sold our travel trailer last year, tired of the maintenance, and just bought a tent. This will be our first time tent camping since our DD's were very little. Any tips or ideas to make it easier on our 50 year old bodies will be appreciated!!

I have a son (in the Navy) living there currently.
I love a little brunch place called Citrus. I usually get Soft Shell Crab Benedict in season and a Mimosa.
There's also a casual little seafood place called Chick's Beach Oyster Bar. Ask to be seated on the water. It's a beautiful view anytime, but can spectacular when the sun is setting.
There are lots of museums and historical sites nearby. If you don't mind a little drive, you could even venture to Williamsburg or Yorktown for a day. The Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk is worth seeing. You might also enjoy touring the decommissioned USS Wisconsin at the Maritime Museum in Norfolk. You won't run out of things to do --- there's way more available in that area than you will have time for.

I lived in Norfolk/Va Beach for many years and you will love your trip! I would move back in a heartbeat if I could.
Pocahontas Pancake House- it's on Atlantic Blvd which is the main strip in Va Beach where the boardwalk is. It's been on the Food Network a few times for their amazing pancakes and other food. I recommended to another Pea once and she reported back that she loved it. They have a website also so you can check out their menu.
If you want less busy beach atmosphere I recommend heading to the Norfolk side of the beach. Willoughby Spit area. Less tourist and when I lived there they always had bands play old school music from different eras. It's usaully on the weekends and it was free.
If you're into fishing there is a pier in Norfolk (again in the Willoughby Spit) that is fairly new after the old one got washed away in a hurricane. It's cheap and open all night with plenty of lightening and there is a general store on the peir and a restaurant. They have plenty of benches so no need to bring a chair.
If you're into thrift store shopping head down Va Beach Blvd in Va Beach. There are tons and they really are the best thrift stores I've been at.
Norfolk Botanical Garden is really nice to go to. I'm not even huge into flowers and stuff like that but it's worth going to. I rememeber them having a butterfly garden as well which was neat. I'm pretty sure there is also a place to eat there as well.
Colonial Williamsburg Is another great place. It's worth the drive to Williamsburg. You can take tours with guides there but I liked doing my own thing.
Navel Station Norfolk. It's huge and the traffic sucks but if you plan on doing any type of Navy museums there that's open to cilvilans don't go early in the morning or after 3pm. The traffic is crazy.
If I think of anything else I'll add it to my post.
