Now that you've had time to play with the newest version of the software, what do you think? When it first came out I was in the middle of several projects and I was worried that I'd lose my saved work, so I didn't update, but now I'm thinking of taking the plunge. Some of it looks great , but I'd love some current feedback. Thanks

I talked to customer service today about a different issue, but asked if all the bugs were fixed. She claimed they were.
I still haven't updated. I need to go back and read the Silhouette Plus forum before I decide whether or not to do the upgrade.

I still haven't updated. I'm not sure I will. I haven't had a chance to research whether it's truly fixed or not. And I like some of the features that they took away.

I still haven't updated, but plan to this week. The kids both have camp and I'm desperately hoping for some ME time.

I guess the real clincher for me will be if what they have added will be worth what is lost, plus having to take the time to relearn how to do things differently for the things they changed. The customer service gal said that I can always uninstall the update and reload the Legacy version, but if I were to do that, I would have to make sure my library is completely backed up first. If you don't like the upgrade and decide to uninstall and reinstall Legacy, you will lose your library. You can recover the files you have bought from Silhouette, but you would potentially lose files you have created or imported from other sources.

If you're on a Mac you can have multiple versions installed. I was a beta testes so I have V2, and 4 or 5 versions of v3 installed. I just pick which one I want to use. Some of the Beta versions had features they ended up taking out - can't talk about them - but I see some of them might be coming back in the business version

I had serious issues with my library when it was first released. I installed and uninstalled the newest software multiple times. I spoke to Silhouette's customer service who were really helpful and we managed to get my issue resolved. I've never had any other problems. I do believe the problems / bugs have been worked out.

Create a subfolder in your Application folder called Silhoette V2 (or whatever you like) and move the SIL app there before installing the new one. i have each version in its own folder and open from the Application folder and not the dock. HTH

I've got the instructions so you can install two versions on a Windows computer too. I haven't tried it yet but I know people it has worked for. I only the Silhouette software to save to svg format.

Does this software only work with the Cameo or does it work with V1.0 too?

Well, I went ahead with the upgrade so we shall see. Haven't really had time to play with it too much, but so far so good. My Library and saved work is still there and that was my main concern. I'm really interested in the new "PixScan"(sp?) and I think you can only use it with V3. Let's update each other as time goes on - I find this site easier to navigate than some of the silhouette sites.

Delta Dawn, what's your question? The software will work with the original Wishblade if that's your question. Designer Edition will not work with v1 so you would need to keep v! separate, NOT upgrade it, and just install v2 or v3 separately

I wonder how to do that on a Mac. Is it more difficult? I could always install it on my old Netbook if need be. I haven't used my Sil in years but I want to get back to using it on a regular basis.
Thanks!

Installing on a Mac is easy peasy. You just pick the Mac download.

How to turn it on? I was a PC user before. I have never used it on my Mac. I just can't get my head around the size I need to make my letters. Do I make them 30 point, 100 point or bigger? I can write a letter or resume on a computer. I just can't use software to make a title.

I updated shortly after the revised update came out. I have had no problems at all. I love some of the new features, like cutting by layers. I like being able to add a pause to change the blade dial if I need to for different materials. That being said, I am going to hold off on V3.1, even though I plan to go ahead and get one of the new mats. I want to make sure the V 3.1 update doesn't do something wonky. I am really looking forward to not having to fussy cut stamped images or go through all the steps to scan it to cut.

I am still holding off. I'm hoping 3.1 doesn't have bugs. I know V2 pretty well and I'm afraid to lose that confidence and not know my way around the software. I know that sounds silly, but I can get projects done easily now.

I upgraded a good while ago and have been working without too many problems. It is a bit buggy, but I haven't downloaded the newest version yet - I'm still running 3.043 so I'm hoping those things are resolved by now. I was going to update but figured I would wait until the new PixNScan update is available - and I'll wait to get the *clear* from the pros first.

The earliest Silhouette. I think it was the same as the Wishblade.

Roughly, 72 pts make up one inch.
But not all fonts use the same point scale. It's sort of like buying a pair of size 8 jeans. You could wear anything from a 4 to a 12 depending on the brand!
You can switch from points to inches. I'd have to go into the program to find out how, but it's there. I want to say its right next to the box that has the point sizes.
If you downloaded the program, go into Finder. But remember, you need to launch it first.

I don't know that they took any features away. Everything is still there that I use, although a few things are in slightly different spots. Easy to adjust to it though.
I have been using V3 for quite a while and love it. No problems..
This was not the case for me. I did roll back to the Legacy version after I installed the first upgrade - poo - that one stunk. After the fixes, I upgraded back to V3.0.531 and I never lost my library.
Any files you create in V3 are not compatible with V2 unless you specifically save them as Legacy files though.
It is a good idea to backup though! V3 makes that easy - another good reason to upgrade.

How do you do the backup using V3? I've looked at all of the "buttons" etc. and don't immediately recognize anything that would do this.

I would love to but I am waiting to hear some reviews on how it is. I had installed the last version and it had way too many bugs and I just had a hard time as I am still learning. I hope to hear some good things.
