I have my sewing area crammed into the very small nook space in our master bedroom. There is a fireplace that juts out of the wall and divides the area between the bedroom area and a small nook/sitting area. It is the kind that is clear where the fake log is so you can see it from both sides. My sewing table is pushed up against the side of the fireplace (don't worry, we never ever use it).
I want to be able to hang shelves or something on the top part of the wall that is above the fireplace side you I can just reach up from my sewing table and grab rulers, scissors, pens, etc. I tapped on the wall and it is sheet rock over the metal frame of the fireplace chimney I guess. I looked at Command caddies on line but there were lots of complaints of them falling off the wall. Plus, my wall is textured. I obviously can't screw any hardware into the wall so I don't know what I can do.
I'm thinking maybe hanging peg board but it will have to be attached from the ceiling only. Not sure how good that would work. Anyone have any ideas? I'm dying to get my sewing table cleared of the clutter. Thanks.

Without knowing how your fireplace is vented I wouldn't do anything that puts a hole it it. In most cases I tell people to think "up" in shelving. But not in this space. Even though you don't plan on using it now you or someone may want to in the future. You don't want to damage the flue so that carbon monoxide or sparks are coming through the metal part of the flue/vent.

Oh! How about shelves on legs? Kind of like the ones made to go over toilets? Could you put a shelf bridge above your table? You could even hang a peg board from the back of that.

What about a tension rod frame -- poles between the floor and the ceiling that could support a pegboard or whatever else you want to put on it. Ikea used to sell a shelving/storage system that was supported completely by tension poles -- I think it's no longer sold, but sometimes you can find it on Craig's list. Or if you have a handy person in your life, they might be able to fashion one for you.

Ok I'm skimming really fast so I might have missed something- but - they make super industrial strength Velcro strong enough to hang wood panelling and even thinner stone. I don't know if it's available retail but with Internet shopping anything is possible.
