Also, I know couples that call each other "bucket" as in love bucket so maybe it's a combination of that and two peas in a pod?

Well, the phrase has yet to make it's debut on Urban Dictionary, but because of my attempt at research, I now know what a two peckered billy-goat is. linkThere really is a two peckered billy goat??? DH and I use that phrase all the time "Busier than a two peckered billy goat" but I never knew they really existed.

I'm in Wisconsin and have never heard this term until my wife from the UK used it to describe how the house we were in was far too big for just the two of us. "Rattling around like two peas in a bucket." I have heard her use this a few times over the years for the same reason, too much space for what is needed.

It always makes me think of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, and what the Lady Chablis would say..."Two tears (peas) in a bucket. Motherfuck it." I just read that book a few years ago and loved it. Also love that quote!

I’ve always known and heard the term for many many years. To me, as far back as I remember, it meant being so much alike; having many similar likes, dislikes, ideas, etc.
WOW just noted how old this post was !!!

Two peas in a bucket will ALWAYS remind me of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Wasn't it the Lady Chablis that used that phrase?

My Nan and Mum used the expression 2 Peas in a bucket as a way of saying too few people in a large space. So yes I knew the expression before I came to the pod. I was only a lurker on their site though...much prefer being here.

Nope - always heard of 2 Peas in Pod. I always assumed that "Pod" was taken so they just went with "Bucket" - I thought it was pretty cute.

I always wondered why we all referred to it as "the pod" when it was a bucket. Yes, I know it's "pod" in the more well-known phrase, and yes, I know this was an old thread. Everything old is new again, and I still wonder my wonder.

Lived in Wisconsin all my life and had never heard that phrase. I always thought it must be an inside joke kind of thing. I lived in Wisconsin until I graduated high school. Never heard it.

I thought Wisconsin was all about CHEESE not PEAS! I'm so confused!! I do remember there was a reason but i don't recall details.

I’ve heard it in the South, where many people are Anglophiles and Francophiles. I know a lot of people who love a delicious cuppa tea, but with our climate, we often wind up pouring it over ice.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading a post from the wife (Kristina?) many years ago and she said it was their own little joke from when she and her husband first met that they were "as alike as two peas in a bucket", by which I think she meant, they weren't alike at all. Then when they decided to open a business it seemed natural to call it that. Someone else must remember that? I remember Kristina posting about that. Something like....In the beginning days of their relationship or marriage.....one of them commented that they were like "two peas in a pod" but it came out as "two peas in a bucket" and it stuck. Or something like that.
