I spotted a 12 x 12 pad of Heidi Swapp "No Limits" in Home Sense (TK Maxx), priced £7.99, and with a travel journal coming up, didn't think twice (or look closely) before buying. I see that it's described as "Treated Accessory Pack" and sure enough, inside there are some pages of journalling cards, elements and a page of (printed but not cut) alphas as well as the usual 12 x 12 sheets, some of which have glossy accents printed. The thing is, the quality isn't that good, the papers are single sided and not double sided as I expected, the glossy bits aren't that well aligned and it made me wonder if this is a knock off and not the real thing at all.
What do you reckon? I wondered if, when a line has lost its initial spotlight, the same design is produced as a kind of "outlet product" in the same way as clothes are made for outlet stores. Has anyone here come across such things?
It'll teach me to look closely before I buy in future, for sure, though on this occasion, I'm not too worried because I'm cutting much of it up anyway.

That's a good question. Maybe factory seconds or something?

I would guess factory seconds.

It's probably authentic. I like that line (I think it's the one with oranges and blues) and have a few sheets from a friend. Most paper pads (especially ones released by American Crafts subsidiaries) are going to include single sided papers.
Heidi Swapp has been selling at chain craft stores here in the states for a while and I think that paper pad was one of the ones available. Over the past year or two, I've noticed that the quality of anything she makes has gone downhill drastically (my guess is to maintain profitability because we can use coupons in the states on these items). Unfortunately, they just keep churning them out in the lower quality when they aren't at our chain stores any longer and are carried by independent shops.
I'd say it's probably how it was made and it's just good ole' American Crafts lack of quality control you have to thank for the shoddy paper pad.
Her Memory Album/planner thing last year had WEDNESEDAY plastered on EVERY single monthly overview page.

That line is kinda grundge-y by design I think--but maybe they are seconds.

Her Memory Album/planner thing last year had WEDNESEDAY plastered on EVERY single monthly overview page. No! That's too bad. Not even enough for "second quality" in that case IMHO> Yes, it's the blue/orangey travel-ish themed collection and maybe described as a bit grungey. It's not the actual printing that's off, though, but the shiny accent layer, which doesn't line up with the print design at all! I take it that it was probably meant to be single sided and I think that some of the "elements" sheets probably originated as die-cuts, too. I had just never given any thought to the fact that some of these things might be seconds quality, because I'd read how heavily "perfect quality" goods are discounted in shops like Tuesday Morning over there (jealous!!) Thank you for your thoughts - I'll take a closer look before buying anything so heavily discounted in future. Buyer Beware and all of that ;-)
