When coloring hair that has gray roots - do you or do you not put the color on the roots for 30-45 mins then put on the rest of the hair for 10-20 mins (since it has already been processed)
I just got back from getting my hair did (first time with this lady and hair salon) - I have reddish brown hair but I also have gray roots - so she matches my hair color with swatches - comes back and starts adding color (she started in the back so I had no clue what she was doing) but she was doing the roots and pulling it to then ends as well. So I asked her about it when I realized what she was doing, she said this is the way it's done and was very confused by what I was saying. So we rinse and shampoo and my roots are bright orangey red and my hair is DARK and I mean DARK. I'm thinking it'll look better as she dries it but it didn't. My hair is so dark, like 4x's darker than it was when I walked in and my roots are so light. She asked me how I liked my hair and I said it's horrid I do not like it at all. She said not a problem we can put some darker color on my hair just hang tight when while she mixed the stuff. I said OH NO I don't have time for that now - She called another hair dresser over and said OH it looks fine. I said "are you kidding me" My roots are orangey color and my hair is so dark. It's not ok. I'm not 20 years old and I didn't come in looking for different colors I wanted one color.
Have things changed in the passed 40 years that I've been getting my hair colored? I explained to the gal that since my hair is processed already adding color for so long would make my hair a lot darker than non colored hair. She said she didn't know that
TIA
