UPDATE: As many surmised, it appears the skin was irritated/sensative to the scrub and shaving. I tested an area yesterday with no discomfort so applied it for a second day. Today would be day three for the "3 day" lotion but I used just a bit of it in one area where I thought the area was a bit lighter than the rest. Overall, I'm very pleased with how the tanner worked and would recommend it. I'll be switching over to the daily version now which, I guess, "maintains" what the 3-day version created.

I'm pretty much never worried about having a bad reaction to stuff. I just don't generally have that problem, so 99% of the time I don't even give it a thought. I decided to try some self tanner on my legs. I just want some nice color tone and am not willing to use the real thing and take those risk to get it.
So I bought the Jergens products. I bought the primer scrub, the 3 day and the regular. I used the scrub and then shaved my legs (a rarity as I have so little visible hair but it's been a while so I gave it a once over). I applied the 3 day product and went about the next part of my morning. I was outside doing some horse chores when I realized my legs were getting pretty itchy, to the point of being unbearable!
I couldn't stop what I was doing so I grabbed the water hose and hosed down my legs. That helped but I'm bummed. I spent a bunch of coin to buy these things and now I'm pretty sure I can't use them. I might try the regular (vs. the 3 day) and see what happens.
Anyone else experience anything like this?

Yes I've had this before with quite a few self tanners. The itching is crazy. Doesn't seem to matter if it is cheap or expensive either.
It is quite common if you google it.
I find I don't have this issue with gradual tanners though. You might need some antihistamine type cream to help with itching.

Where did you buy them?
If you bought them somewhere like adults, Walgreens, CVS, you can still return them even though you've used them. I will only buy beauty products at stores that have that policy.

Scrubbing and then shaving immediately prior to application was possibly an error. Your skin was already sensitised when you applied the tanner.

I agree with gar . I wouldnt throw them out yet....its possible the shaving/scrubbing/applying back to back caused this reaction.

You scrubbed which took off the top layer exposing a more tender under layer and then shaved, possibly causing little nicks or removing another layer of skin leaving it vulnerable.

I ue FakeBake but I never apply it the same day I shave my legs otherwise I get itchy too. Like everyone has said, give it a day or two and try again.

I agree with the above poster regarding the scrubbing then shaving. The day before, shave then scrub and then regular lotion. The following day apply tanner. Good luck!

I think the shaving was enough of an exfoliator and you didn't need the scrub. You still may be having a sensitivity to it though.
