I burned my finger on steam while cooking dinner. My friend grabbed a bottle of bleach and poured it on my finger. He waited about 5 seconds and then flushed the finger with water. Result: No pain; at all. No visible burn.
I'm surprised but it's a great thing to keep in mind for future burns.

I would assume it should be pretty much immediate; ie, as soon as the burn happens.
But still, bleach? Who knew?

Wow! I've never heard of that one before. My grandma always went for the yellow mustard.

Ketchup works too! It works so well that my dd uses it if she burns herself on the stove.

That's a new one, I have never heard of that. Is it just for steam burns or any kind of cooking burn?

My friend said he badly burned himself on the arm with hot grease. Worked like a charm.

I've had great luck with apple cider vinegar for burns.
Bleach? That's new to me.

I never heard of ANY of these remedies. I've always just suffered! I'm not exactly looking forward to the next time I get a burn, but I am looking forward to seeing how well this works!

My grandmother always used plain old white vinegar. I've never heard of bleach working on burns. Good to know.

Can't say that I'm anxious to be burned, but I am anxious to see how well bleach works.
And once again, I've learned something from the peas!!

Ketchup works too! It works so well that my dd uses it if she burns herself on the stove. I have heard to never use Ketchup because if the wound is open it can get infected. I would be careful

I've never heard of using bleach for burns but I have heard of using it on poison ivy. Personally I can't imagine putting straight bleach directly on my skin at all, but apparently a lot of people do it.

I would be careful You do this as soon as you touch something hot. The skin isn't open and it doesn't blister. Let the ketchup on for about 3-4 minutes. It feels a little weird but it's amazing. Someone told me years ago it's because of the acid in the tomato. I haven't a clue. I just know it works!

Taking a bleach bath is also a treatment for excema. One cup of bleach to a full tub of water and soak once a week. Two dermatologists have recommended it.

That's a new one for me. I've heard of using vinegar, but not bleach or ketchup. I wouldn't use it on an open wound though.

I work in a burn clinic. I can't in good conscience recommend using bleach on a burn, especially anything more than a very small very minor superficial burn. Bleach is very caustic and there are warning signs all over the bottle for a reason!! I realize you rinsed it quickly, but honestly it's scary for me to think of people pouring bleach on themselves for any reason.
All I need is to go to work and find my patients who all say, the peas told me it was ok!!

My gut reaction was that straight bleach is something I wouldn't want on my skin, even for a short duration.

i'm glad it worked for you!
i am surprised that a couple of you are afraid of getting straight bleach on your skin
have you never accidentally gotten bleach on you when adding to the laundry or pouring in a bucket of water
it is caustic...but not instantaneously!
