Good morning ladies!! We're SOOOO close to Friday!! I did great yesterday with my eating and got my workout in the morning and then managed to get a walk in last night after I dropped the girls off. I haven't walked outside in quite a while and it was a cool, windy walk. It felt great!! As soon as I drop ds off at school this morning, I'm heading downstairs to do the C25K. Then my BFF and I are heading to the venue where we're having the soccer banquet next week and finalizing stuff there. Then it's home to do some housework. Tonight we have a soccer board meeting and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't go until almost 10pm like the last one. So I really need to incorporate some weights into my workouts. The only problem is that I have NO idea what I'm doing. And I don't want a thousand different exercises I have to do - more like 4 or 5 basic ones to just give some definition to my arms and shoulders. Since so many obese people seem to have abdominal muscle issues, I'm a bit leery about doing anything for those. My legs? Well, my upper thighs could use some work...my calves probably could too. I have 5 lb weights and 10 lb weights plus a Bowflex. Any idea where I should start? Also, should I be doing a set amount of reps or do I go until I just can't go any more? How do I know if I should use the 5 lb weights or the 10 lbers? TankTop OMG, your haircut is ADORABLE!! I love it!! Do you have to straighten your hair daily? I wish I could get my hair trimmed every couple of weeks to keep it looking nice with that freshly cut look. Here's how mine came out. I hope you ladies have a wonderful day?!

Oh yes, I commented in the other thread on TankTop new haircut. Beautiful! And brandy327, look at that beautiful smile, haircut, everything. You look AMAZING! And I do have to straighten my hair every day. Takes just 5 minutes though. It's SHORT! And my birthday was awesome. DD#3 came up to me and said "Mom, we don't have to go to cardiac rehab today if you don't want to." I cried!!! I didn't realize the toll it has all taken on me. To know I didn't have to shower, I didn't have to drive anywhere, I could spend time in my studio and paint, etc., was the BEST gift ever. Then one of my other girls is back at school. DD#3 had hidden a note from her sister for me. She left it on the dinner table so when I sat down I saw this precious, precious note from the one at school. I again cried. It is a treasure. Then my other daughter was at work. She was to go on a case until 9-9:30 p.m. But only if she wanted. She worked a case until 10:30 p.m the other night. So, she declined and said "No, I want to be home with my mom on her birthday." WOW! It was just a special day all about my family. The only bad part was my amazing cheesecake really upset my stomach. It's a whole 10" cheesecake. Now I am thinking of giving the rest to neighbors and friends. I don't want to feel like that again. Have a great day everyone!

Patter Awwwwwwwwwww, I'm SO glad your family put you first yesterday and you were able to enjoy your birthday. Sorry about the cheesecake though! I've been dying for some fish & chips but I know that I'll have the same after effect. And thank you for the nice words.

Awe Patter. Your family sounds like the sweetest. Glad you had a nice day. brandy327 I would start by watching a few of the BBM 6 week mini challenge arm videos. She demonstrates a variety of exercises with weights. Pick your favorites from there and make a little routine for yourself. I suggest this so you can see what they are supposed to look like. She also does a good job of mixing the exercises so you are not using the same muscles over and over. I am off to basketball camp with my son. They have an elevated track so I will walk and read on my kindle during that hour. Then I am taking ds and a friend to the pool. Looking forward to some butt in a chair time. Lol! Dd will be working tonight. Dh is out of town. Ds is going home with his friend. EMPTY FREAKING HOUSE! Yes, I'm shouting! I am thinking of going to Zumba with friends and doing a little sewing.

Oops! Forgot to talk about hair. Thank you for the compliments. I can usually get it pretty straight with just a brush and a dryer. Then I touch it up with the flat iron. It is pretty quick.

Dear Lort, it's NOT the same every day. I jumped on the treadmill this morning ready to do 3 five min runs. I just about fell off the treadmill when the lady announced Run 1 of 2...8 MINS! But I did it...2 runs of 8 minutes. I am so freaking proud of myself. I looked at the next day since they obviously switched it up this week. OMG, it's a FULL 20 min run with NO walking. I wonder if I can do?! That seems like a REALLY long time to run at once. A few weeks ago, I found an old scrap of paper that had my measurements on it from a long time ago. It was dated June of 2009. I don't typically do measurements because with all my excess skin, I get discouraged that I don't see a lot of change in the areas where I want to see the changes. But I said what the heck and measured. I'm supposing that when people say "I've lost 8 inches" it's that they've taken the difference in all of their measurements and added it up. Is that right?! Because if it is girls, I've lost a total of 28.5 inches in the last 7 years. The biggest area of loss? My boobs. LOL 8 freaking inches off the girls. The least amount of inches lost? My biceps haven't changed at all. I'm hoping that if I start doing some lifting, maybe I can get that number down a little...I know it's impossible to completely tone up that area, without surgery, but anything has to help.

That's exactly what I do--get it as straight as I can with the dryer and brush then flat iron touch up. And enjoy the empty house. That sounds like heaven!

Two of my friends went with me and there were two other people there too. The pool is owned and maintained by the company I work for and is really nice. I had the locker room to myself and I used it to shower and get ready for work. Wore my new triathlon suit and it fit great. Tonight is my last tri group training session and I have my second to last swim lesson. I really felt like a swimmer this morning; I have come a long way. Have an amazing day.

Just saw this quote on FB and I need to share it with you: "No matter the pace, no matter the distance, every run starts with a single step." Remember that. Running changes everything.
I'm amazed by the people I meet who I assume have been athletes for a long time (all their lives possibly) and are kicking a$$ and taking names. Then I see the before photos and am blown away. I have a friend who is one of the most positive, most encouraging people I've met. She's also an awesome athlete and I assumed had always been. What I didn't know is that she started as a 200+ pound mom who just wanted to lose weight; never did sports before in her life. We all have a starting point and have no limit to what we can achieve. Just keep going!

I cannot get motivated to do stuff today. I got my workout in, went and dealt with the soccer stuff, came home and brushed the dogs, called my mom and chatted for a few. Now? Sitting on my butt thinking about the HUGE list I need to get done like yesterday. But I'm SO tired...and have no want to do any of it. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to find some motivation soon because I'm running out of days to get the stuff done. Ack. STBC Thank you for sharing. I really want to LOVE running. It seems like it's one exercise where you can do it anywhere, any time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that a good first step is being able to finish this program. TankTop Thanks for the info! I checked out her Upper Body video and I think I'll start with what she suggests and work from there.

One of the reasons I enjoy running (don't worry, it will take a while for it to grow on you!) is that it doesn't matter that I am left handed. Bowling, golf, and tennis all make me "stand out" even more than my inexperience already causes me to do.

alexa11, I'm sorry about your friend. Try to take care of yourself. It was the last day of school here today (yay!). Came home and promptly crashed, now feeling really gross. I had some leftover salad for lunch but used a different dressing--don't know if that messed my stomach up or if it's a bug. Either way I cancelled dinner plans with friends and am hanging at home. It was a planned rest day anyway so I'm not missing a workout. brandy327 I have no doubt you can make those 20 minutes! Don't think about how much time is left, just keep moving and you'll get there!

Loving all the haircuts! They look so cool and fresh and you all look so lovely! I'm trying to keep a positive attitude today. First of all, I'm about ready to lose my mind with my boys who don't seem to want to study for their French exam. They are finding EVERY.SINGLE.EXCUSE to not review and I want to pull my hair out. I also just need for tomorrow to be over--first exams start tomorrow and I'm just so tired. I want the first set over and just breath a little this weekend. I also stepped on the scale this morning and the 2 pounds I'd lost on Monday found its way back. Not sure what it is, but I'm bummed. I've been drinking water and keeping very good track of my food so that hopefully it will go back down by Saturday's weigh in. My foot is feeling somewhat better so I'm going to try putting on some sneakers and get a walk in tomorrow. This week has totally sucked for activity. alexa11 I'm so sorry hear about your friend. Hugs to you and take care of yourself.

brandy327 - that's fantastic you did both of the 8 minute runs! I know it seems impossible but keep at it and you will be amazed at what you can do. I needed a mental health day so I took the day off. DS had a full day at work so I knew I would have the house to my self - yay. After he and DH left I went for a run and RAN THE WHOLE 3 MILES! First time I have tried it and I was so striking excited. I took it slow because I wasn't sure how to pace myself through the whole thing. Now that I know I can do it, I will work on my speed. After that I did some deep cleaning around the house, went to the grocery store and then had a pedicure. DS should be off work in 30 min so my day to myself is coming to an end. I really need to take days off more often - I work too much .

Enjoying the running conversation! A few summers ago I decided to become a runner. Lol. Well, it didn't take. I think for some people it is just in them and a part of them. I was fit and in shape, but just could never get the breathing down. I ran a 5K, ran all summer, but then said - that's enough. Lol. It just never got any easier to breathe! My legs were fine - I could go forever, it seemed. But my breathing never improved. I consulted some of my long distance runner friends for advice who told me all sorts of things. Nothing helped. So now I get my cardio through other things - mostly tennis, rowing, and short sprints.
