a terrorist attack that gets world wide attention but when the same thing happens in Tel Aviv it goes almost unreported by the world media?
Three or four people were shot and killed yesterday while enjoying a meal at an outdoor restaurant in an upscale mall. I saw a brief mention of it on CNN but that was all.

The event in Tel Aviv has been broadcasted by all 3 major news networks in Canada. (BellMedia, CBC, GlobalTV).

It was on our local news, plus the national news (ABC). And in our newspaper. And they called it a terrorist attack. Not sure why anyone would think the news wouldn't report it. ??

The attack in Tel Aviv was on all three news networks yesterday and there was an article in the paper this morning. I have not heard about the attack in Paris but I haven't had the TV on either.

I found one page buried in BBC's website. I am glad to know it was reported in the US too. Hard to know what's on TV back home when you are traveling.

i didn't see it, but then my news exposure is mostly limited to 20min in the morning while I eat breakfast. my guess/opinion would be because it happens less frequently in places like paris, and has sadly become common in tel aviv and other places in the middle east. aren't there stories like this that could be reported almost daily there, but aren't? it's not as sensational anymore so it doesn't get the same level of press.

It was all over my twitter feed-BBC, Reuters, my local paper, etc. It has been reported.
But probably what you are really asking is why there isn't the same hue and cry afterwards? And the only answer I have to that is that it happened in the part of the world where stories of evil and terrorism are more common place and we have become somewhat inured to the violence happening in the Middle East. Not a good thing, but a human thing I think.

Nope it was on the channel that DH was watching while I was getting dinner together last night. For quite some time. I won't mention the name due to some people here not thinking they engage in actual news stories.

The world media? It was all over the news here.
ETA* Ironically, I don't remember hearing about the murder of patrons in a Paris restaurant. Was that recent?

Morning Edition and BBC both did extensive coverage of this event - I listened to all of it.

The only murder of restaurant patrons in Paris that I can recall was as a part of the attacks of Nov 13 last year. And that was a whole different scale of attack to the one in Tel Aviv - over 130 people died that night in Paris, in a series of co-ordinated attacks. No wonder it made international headlines for days.

CNN World has a big article on the front page about Tel Aviv. I'm unable to find anything about a recent shooting in Paris.

I'm unable to find anything about a recent shooting in Paris. I haven't heard of anything recent in Paris either, and with the Euros (soccer championships) starting in France tomorrow, a terrorist attack in the past month would have been massive news over here.

I assume you're talking about the November Paris attacks - in multiple sites, deaths totaling more than 100. As awful as any deaths are, that was on a different scale.
And clearly it isn't unreported either.

I watched nonstop coverage of it yesterday on MSNBC. But I get what you're saying. Nobody is putting the flag of Israel over their Facebook profile pic. I think maybe it's because, sadly, it happens quite a bit in Israel but is a much more rare occurrence in Europe. Also – maybe because Israel is in a direct conflict with Palestine, and European countries are more bystanders.
It doesn't matter – the tragic loss of any innocent life, whether French, Belgian, American, Israeli, or Palestinian-- should outrage us all.

It also goes without saying (and yet I'll say it) that mass shootings are so commonplace in the US that they often get little coverage, unless the victims were young, wealthy and/or white.

Or maybe, if the OP is talking about the Nov/15 attacks, it's because 130 people died in Paris, not just 'patrons at a restaurant'.

I watched our local provincial news and it was mentioned - not in the first 5 minutes of the broadcast.
I then watched the American today show broadcast and it was the third story mentioned, behind election coverage that took about 10 min.
Definitely not as huge an uproar as what occurred in Paris. I think the tel aviv story is more common there and the Paris attack was unexpected / on a larger scale / more organized.
There was brief mention in the broadcast of Israel retaliating this morning but I didn't hear what happened.
