I can't believe no one jumped in to help. The video clearly shows a man getting out of the way, not even attempting to help.

If anything it looks like he's moving the cart out of the way so the guy can more easily get the girl out of the store - WTF?

Plus the way things go in this country he could have ended up sued by either the kidnapper or the girl if he some how hurt either one of them.
I am not condoning his inaction just giving couple of reasons for it.

So scary. I've thought about this recently...how incredibly brazen people like this have to be with all the security cameras and various forms of digital media "out there" to potentially catch them in the act. Kudos to that mama and off-duty officer.

Absolutely terrible. Thank goodness the Mom was finally able to stop him.

I'm a very petite girl and look much younger than my actual old age. My DH and sons saw this on the news and said they were forbiding me from going shopping there ever again.
So very scary though. Middle of the day, in regular store, I'm still shuddering over it.

This is the craziest video!
1. I can't believe the guy was so bold to do it there! 2. I think my Momma instinct would kick in too...you take my kid, I'm going too! 3. Thank goodness for law enforcement - on duty and off duty!

I saw this yesterday, and just could not believe the balls on that guy. In the middle of a store, with her mother right beside her - and she was kicking and screaming, and the mother was hanging on to her and he was dragging the both of them. What did he think was going to happen? That nobody would notice?
How awful for that poor mother and daughter - they must be so shaken up.....asshole!

I saw this on Good Morning America yesterday. They said he had a history of mental illness. Sad, all the way around. Also, it's hard to tell from 1 camera what was going on in the rest of the store. I can't imagine what I would do in a situation like that. There can be many reasons why the customer did not help.

I'm sorry... But, holy shit! That video is terrifying. I hate to think of what he might have done to that poor girl had he gotten away with her.

It is so odd how determined this guy was to get this girl. Usually criminals take the path of least resistance. Most would've given up after a few seconds. Even with all ruckus, he just kept holding on and dragging her. I'm wondering if he was on meth or something.
The girl was smart to drop to the floor like dead weight. I remember telling my kids to do that if someone tried to grab them.

You can really tell that something was off with this guy just because of the way he went about all of this.
I feel for the mom & girl. They must have been terrified. I think, too, about how this girl is at an age where most kids are looking for more and more independence, and how fortunate it was that on this particular day, this girl with out with her mom, when she is certainly at an age where many kids got to or run into a store on their own. And the mom could have been waiting in the parking lot or not been there at all.
And then, of course, it was extremely fortunate that the officer was there so that they can rest a bit easier knowing that he was caught immediately.
A scary, but yet fortunate story all around.

I'm shocked that the guy didn't give up. It makes me wonder if he had someone outside the store waiting in a car to help him. So creepy.

It's terrifying. Thank God the mom was right there. I have a "freeze" reaction instead of fight or flight and I'm afraid I wouldn't have reacted as quickly as she did.

What scares me about it is that girl is 13, so not a *little* kid. It makes you think how much easier it would be for a creep like that to grab a younger, smaller kid who might happen to veer away from their mom for even just a minute. I try to always keep my little kid right next to me in stores or even right in the cart sometimes if the store is really busy. That would totally freak me out if someone tried to grab her.

That is so crazy! But bystanders often do not do what you think they will. I was on a train and a man who obviously has issues (dirty, sort of strange looking) tried to get a seat an elderly woman was going for. She was maybe 4'11", and old. Since it's Asia, she pushed him out of the way (not a rude thing here at all, older person has right of way, always). The man swore and shoved her, hard, and she fell down. Car goes silent. I was so shocked, but I stepped in front of her and told the guy to move away, and I would have hit him (helps I am a big woman here as opposed to in the us!). He got a bit upset and shoved me, and I shoved him, and I thought I might have a real fight on a train with my poor daughter behind me saying "mom, stop, mom, stop!" but I wasn't going to let this guy beat up an old woman in front of me. but apparently everyone else...was? Since it's Asia I really thought more people would intervene, but I stead everyone went silent and stared when he shoved her down, no one did anything.
My daughter later said she wished I hadn't got involved at the time, but after was glad I did and angry at all the young men just standing there gaping, doing nothing. it was a lesson in what bystanders will- or won't- do.

Not a single person steps in to help....what the he'll is wrong with people? We've taught our girls, step in, speak up and fight. Every kids needs to be taught how to defend themseleves.
