We are looking to switch carriers. Which insurance company (in the U.S.) do you use for your auto/home insurance and are you happy with them? Anyone use Geico?

I have Geico, but have only gotten it in the past 3 months so don't have a lot I can say about it. It was cheaper than State Farm where I was AND I increased our coverages, AND put my 18yr olds truck under full coverage---and it was still cheaper.. I can say I like that I get a couple texts in the couple days prior to the payment coming out of my account -there is also an email.. I need all the the help I can get in life LOL

We have had USAA for the last 26 years. It's one of the highest rated insurance companies. I've never priced out with other companies, but when a telemarketer calls, THEY end the call when they find out we have USAA. I've found them very prompt with a claim and they were the ones to suggest putting my DD as the primary driver of the kids' van, rather than DS, as it's cheaper to insure girls.

I had Allstate for years when I lived in California. When I moved to Kansas, I got Farmers for both home and auto. This year, they really jacked up the home insurance in my state, so I just switched to Safeco. It's too soon to review it.

We have progressive for the cars, we've had geico in the past. No issues with either, just a matter of price (iirc we've had claims with both). Nationwide for home, meh. Our options are limited since the house is so old so we deal.

I switched from Allstate to State Farm several years ago. I have an amazing agent (if you're in WA state and are considering have your insurance evaluated I highly recommend her). In the last 2 years she's helped me with dealing with the aftermath of the condo above mine's hot water tank failure which caused over 10k of damage to my place. Last month she helped me out again when I was accused of something that never even happened (car related). Due to her continued diligence and advocacy, I was found not liable....but for a while there it was not looking good and I was fired up at the adjuster!
ETA, I made the initial switch solely because there was a savings of over $400 a year, with significantly increased coverage (including a very large umbrella policy). I'm very grateful that I did!

We just switched from American Family to Hartford. The rates were at least $100 cheaper a month.

We have had Allstate since college. They have been awesome to work with when we had a broken water pipe in our CA house, when three trees fell on our WA house and when I was in a fender bender. Covered everything with out increasing our rates.

I have had them for 33 years, and my parents have had them for 52 years. Truly the BEST. We have USAA for everything. If you qualify, definitely look into USAA.

We have had State Farm for our entire marriage, 37 years. We've had a few claims - a break in, major hail damage, and a few fender benders over the years. They have always been wonderful.

We have AAA. Our agent saved us 30% and increased our coverage a little on our house. It also includes our AAA roadside assistance. We had one auto claim and have never had a claim go so smoothly.

We have had State Farm for 30+ years and been very happy with them. Our agent is a big part of that equation. DD (28) looked at moving companies last fall and got quotes from Geico and AAA. Both were higher than what State Farm was charging her. You really have to get multiple quotes and make sure you are comparing apples to apples.
Based on dealing with other insurance companies over the years in accidents where their insured was at fault, I would sign up with USAA in a heartbeat. They are heads and tails above any other insurance company I've ever dealt with. Unfortunately, we are not eligible. Allstate is at the other end of the spectrum. They have been nothing but trouble to work with every time. Without fail they claim that their party is not at fault, including the time when we had a police report indicating that they were! Anytime we have to work with Allstate, our agent has us file under our own insurance then State Farm goes after Allstate for the payment. Much less stress involved for me!

Thank you for all your responses. Unfortunately, we don't qualify for USAA either. I know the agent is key and we aren't happy with ours and our attempt to transfer to another inter-district agent was a nightmare. Will look into some of the recommendations here.

Price is the key if you don't have any claims; the agent is the key if you do have claims. Finding a happy medium is probably harder than it sounds.
We currently have GEICO for our cars - it was significantly cheaper than anyone else, even USAA. We have not had any claims.
Our homeowners insurance is through Progressive with what is supposed to be a discount in DH's benefits package. It was much cheaper the first year but it has steadily risen far beyond what it should have based on the value so I'm in the process of pricing it out with another company, which may include changing our car insurance also to get a bundle discount.

We have USAA, but had Geico in the past, and I had no complaints with them.

We had Geico for 3-4 years and switched 'cause of rate creeping up. Additionally the homeowner rate was outrageous. We are now with Allstate. I was rather incensed when I called Geico to tell them we were switching. Woman told me, "Why did you not tell us, we could/would have met their price." IMO, I should not have to haggle the price of insurance. Saying that told me they were willingly going to overcharge me unless I cried foul. I don't like doing business like that.
Others tell me that a person should shop around every 3-4 years because every company will creep up the rates. My sister's credit union has a person who will evaluate all the companies and rates and help you select.

We have had AAA for years, excellent for homeowners, haven't seen a significant rise in prices. Auto insurance is okay, although I'm not over impressed with anyone's auto insurance in California. Can't say enough great things about road side service....always worth the small cost.

I have been with State Farm since I was 15 years old and driving. As a result of all the discounts, and the length of time without any major claims no one can gI've us a lower quote.
I also have had great luck.with our agents in 4 different states.
