... with Prime.
How did I not know this? I was looking to see if I had a certain book on my kindle and it said I could borrow it or I could buy it. I just borrowed it. Not sure how long I have it for, better go figure that one out.

You can borrow it indefinitely. You just cannot borrow another book until the first is returned.

I did. But it only works on the actual Kindle and not if you are using the Kindle app-which is what I use. I totally sound like an ungrateful brat when I complain that I can't get my free loaner book.

I just realized this a month ago. LOL. And I found out here, I think, when someone asked which book people were borrowing. Oh, this was for the "featured early release".
Now that I am in "my prime membership" on Amazon, it looks like maybe there are two options to borrow a book per month with prime.... is that right?

I read both of the ones I have done on my ipad mini. I can get the early release ones, and have no trouble with either buying regularly or using kindle unlimited-but from what I read the lending library is a bonus for actual kindle owners and isn't available through the app. It would be nice if it would-I would sound a lot less like an entitled grump.

This is why I love this place. It's better than Google. Better than the old World Book encyclopedia. Better than my know-it-all neighbor. Thank you, smalltowngirlie . Thank you so much!

I haven't had luck doing this. When I tried a while ago, it tried to force me into paying for Kindle Unlimited. Is there a trick to it? Did you just search for a book on Amazon and then have the option of borrowing it?

Did you know you get to choose 1 free book a month if you have Amazon Prime? It's about 6 books that you can pick from. Are you mind blown? I did know about borrowing. I frequently forget.

FWIW, you have to be the Prime account holder. Our Prime account is paid by my husband from his account and we family share, so while I get Prime shipping on my account, I don't get to stream Prime free video or get the free book per month, only my husband does.

There is a limited selection of books that qualify. Not all books. You can access the list from your kindle or from amazon's website.

I regularly borrow a book from the lending library. The Hunger Games and Harry Potter are available. Two free books a month (lending library and Kindle First, kept me from considering Kindle Unlimited.

Trying to find a free book is almost impossible. I wish they made it easier to find them. I borrowed one book years ago and don't even remember which one and I know I didn't return it nor do I know how to return it. They don't make it easy.

I type "free Kindle books" in search bar and they all pop up. If you're looking for a certain genre just include it in the search bar also.

Trying to find a free book is almost impossible. I wish they made it easier to find them. I borrowed one book years ago and don't even remember which one and I know I didn't return it nor do I know how to return it. They don't make it easy. I searched my prime account for the information from reading this thread "Note: If you've already borrowed a book from the Kindle Owner's Lending Library for the current month, you'll see "Monthly limit reached" underneath the Borrow for Free button in the Kindle Store. When you’re eligible to borrow a book, you’ll see "Prime members only" underneath the Borrow for Free button. From your device, open the Kindle Store. Go to the Kindle Owner's Lending Library: Kindle e-readers: Select All Categories or See all categories, then select Kindle Owner's Lending Library. Fire tablets: Select Kindle Owner's Lending Library. On some devices, you may need to swipe from the left edge of the screen in the Kindle Store and then select Kindle Owner's Lending Library. Fire phone: Swipe from the left edge of the screen in the Kindle Store and then tap Kindle Lending Library. Eligible titles display the Prime badge. Select Borrow for Free. If you've already borrowed a book, you'll be prompted to return the book before you can borrow again." Apparently I had previously borrowed a book (eh? can't remember that) and there was just a button to press to return it and then it allowed me to borrow the new book. The important thing is you have to be on the kindle device and open the kindle lending library from the store menu. OP thanks for the heads up (again)!

I actually did know that. I just didn't know HOW. I found out the hard way when I ended up with a 34 page book of Mike Tyson interviews.
