I am finally scrapbooking today. Trying to print some pics - edited in photoshop. I go to print and the prints are dark, colors are flat. Never had this problem with my HP printer. I have tried to calibrate my laptop monitor but I am not sure if I am doing it correctly. In the past - with the HP - I edited in PS, printed and the images matched my edited image on the screen. Any ideas?

If I am understanding correctly you said this never happened before. What has changed between the "before" when they were printing fine and now? Camera? Laptop/desktop? Printer?

Sometimes that happens when the ink is low in one colour. If they are dark, maybe it is the yellow? Can you replace just one colour? Or check your ink levels?

houston249 - we got a new printer - and upgraded to Win10. No other changes that I am aware of. grammadee - no it only has color and Black ink. No individual chambers.

Are you using the right paper settings etc? And is the printer controlling the colour or Photoshop if that's where you're printing from?
Try looking at your colour management settings in PS.
Did you just have 1 colour ink tank previously? I do think you get better photo results with multiple colour tanks - in my experience anyway.

FIGURED IT OUT! Someone put in generic ink...office depot brand is definitely not good for pics. Thanks for your suggestions!

anniefb - just curious - which is better? having the printer control the color or photoshop controlling the color?
And with that I became a throbbing member!

Glad you figured it out, @anmore ! Even Hp ink cartridges will sometimes not work properly. Occasionally (Not very often)I have had to put a second one in of one colour to correct the results.
How are you doing with Windows 10? Wish it would stop trying to think for me: I may be slow, but I can actually figure stuff out if it will let me.

I would like to be able to disble some auto functions. I have my desktop as a Win7 desktop through some app I downloaded when Win8 came on my laptop 3 years ago.

And with that I became a throbbing member! I think it just depends on your printer. I had PSE controlling the colour at the start but like the results better when my Canon Pixma controls the colours - they're more vibrant that way. You could test out both options and see what the difference is, if any.
