And while I think it went to the wrong team (I hate the penguins), it is the most beautiful trophy around. I get chills whenever I see it on TV and get giddy and fangirlish when I see it in person. I love that Bettman just keeps going when the entire crowd (no matter where he is) is booing.
So, a begrudging congratulation to the Penguins. Hockey is over for the season. Once my summer break is done, I will be anxiously waiting for October.

We're heartbroken here in San Jose. I've been a fan for over 20 years and was so hoping this would finally be our year; hopefully it won't be another 25 years again!

Is that why practically every seat in the arena was still filled during the bringing out of the trophy? Or were there just way more pens fans than I thought?

Pittsburgh is celebrating tonight. It is always amazing to watch what these style of games do to (and for) the city.
Great job Pens!!! Bring Lord Stanley home!!

It doesn't matter who wins, the Cup is sacred to hockey fans. It is just so amazing. It has so much history. I would never leave while it is being presented.

I was cheering for you too. My Devils haven't won for 13 years and my Avs for 15, but I was at Game 7 when the Avs won it last and it was the most amazing experience (even if my Devils lost). There is nothing like Stanley Cup hockey.

Darn, I thought it was just out of respect. I remember when the SF Giants won the World Series in Texas they had to celebrate in the locker room.

I love watching the winning team "skate the cup". So much fun to see how / who they each hand it off too. So glad to see the Penguins win.....for my 9 yr old grandson. He's a huge Penguins fan. He's been playing hockey since he was 4/5 yrs old and he has always worn the #58 jersey for Chris Letang. It's been his travel baseball jersey number, too.

Pens fans were really hoping for a home win in Game 5 so it could have been presented on home ice, which has never happened in Pittsburgh. But we are happy to accept it in San Jose. Y husband went to Game 1 last week in Pittsburgh. He said it was the most amazing experience!

Darn, I thought it was just out of respect. I remember when the SF Giants won the World Series in Texas they had to celebrate in the locker room. It is, but not for the other team. It is respect for what it takes to win the Cup...16 wins. It is respect for the history of the Cup. It is respect for the game. The Stanley Cup is different from other trophies. There is only one (well actually three, but one presentation cup). They don't make a new one each year. Instead, the player's names are engraved on it. When the ring is full, the top ring is taken off and a new one is added. They don't make a Cup each year. It is beautiful

Two weeks ago, the Stanley Cup (and its handler!) were at my house for a photo session! My dh was on the Memorial Cup host committee, and they had both trophies there for fans to have pictures with. Before the Stanley Cup was flown out, we got a private visit--I'm not sure my husband has ever been that excited before, including our wedding and kids' births, lol!

I would LOVE that and it probably would be the highlight of my life.

I was so hoping the Pen's would win it on home ice. My Grandmother was a huge Pittsburgh sports fan, so I can't help but cheer for them.
Now to get my Red Wings back on track. Yes, I know they are a hated team, but man, it's the only sports team Detroit has that is consistently not sh*t.

As an Avs fan, it is my duty to hate the Red Wings, but as they no longer play in the West they are no where near the top of my hatred list (I'm a Devils fan too, after all) I hate the Penguins Rangers Flyers Cannucks Kings even more.

It still feels so weird that they aren't! I was cheering on the Blues in the playoffs (I live near St. Louis now), sure would have been cool if they had got past the Sharks. The city could have used some good sports news after losing the Rams.

I'm a Penguins and am glad they won it. They replaced their coach this year mid-season so maybe the Pirates should take note of that. They are doing horribly right now so hockey kept me focused on something fun.

We're not pens fans here but dh is a Carl Hagelin fan so he's OK with that. I was hoping to see the sharks win. Maybe burns will trim that beard now!

I don't like them either, (Capital's fan) and I live in Pgh. But my 16 yr. old daughter's boyfriend is a big fan, and they watched the game together at our house last night. Well, I really like the boyfriend, so I had to pull for the Penguins for the first time (and I have lived here for 26 yrs.)

My oldest was born in Royal Oak and lived there 2 months and she is a Red Wings fan! We love Michigan!

Never watched it because I abhor Crosby so much yeah I'm canadian and hate the dude lol. He always has a piss poor attitude and pouts. I usually will tune in to see the cup get shined up and hoisted but didn't this year.
I was really hoping when Crosby touched the conference cup that it would be bad luck for the team and they wouldn't win the Stanley Cup. DUH you never touch the conference cup. Iginla did that the year they went all the way to the end and then lost in game 7 ugh. Well actually they scored the winning cup goal in game 6 but we never realized it until afterwards the puck was clearly over the line, thanks Iggy for that curse you bastard lol.
I always laugh when Betmen gets booed too he just keeps going like they are really cheering him lol.

It was a sad night for us Sharks fans! But I guess someone has to lose. :/ This West Coast girl never paid much attention to hockey until I met XH and then then Sharks came onto the scene. We scraped money together for season tix the first years when they played at the Cow Palace and then at the Tank. And freecharlie , you're right is is the most beautiful trophy in sports. It's all 35 lbs of shiny, and engraved with everyone's name on it. ETA - The good news last night was the Giants beat the Dodgers for a five game lead in the West!

As a Pens fan, I was thrilled with last night's outcome.
During the Cup presentation last night, someone said that it is engraved at a little jewelry shop in Montreal. We are going to be in Montreal this weekend and plan to visit the shop (even though the Cup won't be there then).

We both agreed years ago that Detroit sports fans are born, not bred! Now I can tell him I've talked to someone who actually *chose* to be a Detroit fan!! My siblings & I became Pittsburgh fans because we wanted something to cheer along with Grandma about (she who I get my sports craziness from). Cause battle lines were drawn in college sports, Grandma & cousins who lived Ohio, & my family, who lived in Michigan (except my Dad, who is still a die hard Ohio State fan. Pretty sure he was dropped on his head at least 10 times as a baby!). Fun times!

You can touch it IF you have already won it. Hmm never heard that before and you rarely see any team touch it when they are presented with so they must believe the urban legend too lol
