Depends on a) if anyone in the apartment is allergic to bee stings and b) if you can somehow block it off so bees don't get inside. I would call now if it were me. Are bees flying around the bathroom?

I would call now. There is no way I could sleep in a place with bees or even the remote possibility of being stung.

I did call. But maintenance won't come until tomorrow. I killed 2 bees yesterday and found another dead one on my bathroom floor. But I just thought they got in when I had my door open for a bit yesterday. But my cleaning people came today – and they are the ones that found the nest in the vent. I do not know if I am allergic to bees because I have never been stung by one. But I am allergic to fire ants, which contain the same kind of venom--so I've heard. I do have an epi pen for the fire ant allergy. I'm a little freaked out, but oh well--what can I do?

I vote yes, but I see that they won't come until tomorrow. Is there some way you can cover the vent? I'd try that. If you can take a photo maybe someone will have an idea of how to cover it?

If the nest is where you can see it, you can spray with wasp and hornet spray .... After dark when they are in the nest sleeping.... It has a 25' spray. Is it bees? Wasps? Otherwise, close the Bathroom door and stuff a towel at the floor.... That is what I did when yellow jackets burrowed through my bathroom ceiling!!

Bees roam. They can take two weeks to come back to the nest. When we had a nest in our vent, the exterminator guy also sprayed a nerve agent around the house where they were getting in so that we did not end up with a repeat experience.
I would NOT spray myself. Yeah, it may kill them. But not instantly. In the meantime, you will have very angry bees on your hands. And while a towel under the door would help, the bees can work through much smaller spaces than that. Trust me, we do not have that big of a gap in our house.

Tape a sheet of plastic wrap over the vent itself?

I am deadly allergic to fire ants, and go into anaphylactic shock when stung by them. I've also never been stung by a bee or wasp, but was told by doctors to be as careful as possible never to be stung by them, as the results would most likely be the same. My opinion: Yes, consider this an emergency. Call pest control and see if they have an emergency service that can come out tonight. I'm sorry you have to deal with this.

I did call my maintenance number. They will not come out tonight. FYI, I called at 4:55pm. I'm not going to pay for an exterminator myself.

I'm not going to pay for an exterminator myself. I would pay. It's potentially your life on the line. And what happens if you do get stung? You use the epi-pen and then must call 911 or be driven to the nearest ER to be seen. Do you have an insurance copay? It might cost more to chance it than to be proactive.

Is there an emergency number you can call for maintenance? I would tell them that you are allergic to bee venom (because you are, seeing that it is the same as fire ant venom) and unless they want to be responsible for you going into anaphylactic shock, they need to send someone out immediately or pay for a hotel for the night.
Whether they come or not, I'd go to a hotel, or find somewhere else to sleep. This is life or death for you.

One of the main reasons I sold my house was because I did not want to deal with things like this. The last straw at my house was when a squirrel dug a hole in my roof and was running back and forth in my attic. I think I'll go stay at my brother's house. I'm taking him to go get a colonoscopy at 6:00 am anyway. I just didn't necessarily want to be around for the prep. I am not having the best Monday.

i wouldn't consider it an emergency. is it your only bathroom? if not, cover up the vent with some foil and duct tape, or whatever, or stuff a towel under the door. hopefully they'll be around tomorrow to help you. I am sorry you're dealing with this.

If it is the only bathroom, yes, it's an emergency. If there is another, then no, I wouldn't consider it an emergency.

Wait! Can't you just call a bee farmer (apiarist or something, right?). We're supposed to be saving the bees. They supposedly are always happy to come get them??? Trying looking up local honey providers. You may have better luck getting your problem dealt with that way.

I know it would be to others but it would not be to me. I'm not scared of bees - and I am actually allergic. I would think it was someone that should be dealt with soon but not an emergency. I would be satisfied with next day.

It's just not true in the southwest, though. There is too much of the Africanized bee strain running through bees in the southern/southwestern states so although some beekeepers will at least pay a visit to see if they are more honey than Africanized, that is the exception and not the rule. Huge difference between a honey bee and an Africanized honey bee.

If it is the only bathroom, yes, it's an emergency. If there is another, then no, I wouldn't consider it an emergency. Because I'd shut the door and put a blanket or towel in the gap.

Trying looking up local honey providers. You may have better luck getting your problem dealt with that way. It depends what sort of bees they are. We've had three calls to bumblebee nests this week alone. Also, as someone else pointed out, in the US you have Africanized bees which are more aggressive generally and people are less likely to want them. If you have another bathroom you can use, then close this one up and don't use it. Or, reading further on I can see youve decided to stay somewhere else anyway.
