I was driving home from work down a main road. We were stopped at a light. When the light turned green, the cars in the left-hand lane started to move, but the cars in the right-hand lane – where I was – did not. There appeared to be a car stalled in the lane. One by one, the cars started to go around the stalled car. I was the third car behind the stalled car – two cars ahead of me went around him first. I waited for a break in traffic, and pulled around him. As I started to go through the light, the stalled car--a black Volvo station wagon-- started to move. I just figured he got the car started again. I was pretty far ahead of him, and needed to get back into the right lane because my turn was coming up very quickly. I put on my signal and pulled over in front of him with plenty of room to spare.
All of the sudden, the black Volvo sped up super fast on my tail. I figured he must've been having road rage and was mad that I went around him – even though other cars had already gone around him, and I was very far ahead of him. I certainly did not cut him off! He was driving extremely fast and RIGHT UP on my tail. Then he started to slow way down again. That is when I noticed he was swerving. He swerved a little into the left lane, and then over corrected and hit the guard rail in the right. But he kept on driving! At this point, I realize that the person driving is either crazy drunk, or having some kind of medical emergency.
The turn into my apartment complex is coming up on the right. There is not officially a turn lane--just the shoulder. The Volvo is speeding up and I just knew he was going to slam into me. But I had nowhere to go. I pulled over onto the shoulder as far as I could just in time for him to come flying by. He would have hit me for sure had I not pulled over. It's almost like he was TRYING to hit me. The whole thing happened in about 2 minutes.
I pulled into the parking lot and stopped--I was shaking so badly I could barely dial my phone. I called 911 and told them everything I could. But all I knew is that it was a black Volvo station wagon and the direction it was headed. I don't even know for sure it was a man. And I certainly did not get the license plate number. However, he was driving into a heavy traffic area and headed towards a major intersection. I just know he ended up crashing. I just hope he didn't hurt anyone.
Now I'm freaked out and don't want to drive again tonight.
