Congrats! That's so wonderful!
I like most of Dave Ramsey's ideas except for not building up credit with the correct management of credit cards and other lines of credit. You get better rates on your mortgage and car notes which will save you thousands in interest. If you are tempted to use your cards, just don't carry them with you.
If my dad hadn't helped me build up my credit by putting my first car note in my name, we wouldn't have gotten the credit card rates and limits we did when we first got married. We paid off our cards monthly until my stroke financially devastated us. If we hadn't had those credit cards, we wouldn't have been able to pay for our medications or our medical bills. We used to pay more for our medications than we did on rent! It's not something we couldn't not take, either. We were just so thankful we had the means to pay, even if it was outrageous.
We finally have our credit cards paid down again, and only have one now. We do keep the cards in our wallets in case of emergency---like needing to rent a car in a hurry because your car breaks down in another town and using a debit card freezes $500 in your checking account. --you could be really screwed if the rental agency accidentally charged your debit card twice. This happened to dh and took days to fix. Credit cards can be very useful, but only if used correctly.

Congrats!! I am sure that is an awesome feeling. I have been working to pay off some debt myself and every time I pay something off I get a such a feeling of accomplishment! So far We have paid off 2 car loans, dd's braces, and almost done paying off our kitchen remodel.

We found a couple ways to celebrate. First, we're hosting a party on July 4 to celebrate a birthday, an anniversary, the 4th, and NO MORE MORTGAGE!! And, because I'm geeky and over 40, excitedly I bought OUR house a new refrigerator!! A fancy French door one with a pull out deli/drink/snack drawer. I've wanted one for sooooo long. I'd LOVE a kitchen re-do, but college is next year and I feel that needs to be completely finished/paid for before we do anything else.
