I need some gift ideas for a boy turning one. He loves things that move and make noise. I am kind of an honorary grandparent even though we don't live close, so I would like to send something kind of special. I could use some help if anyone has any ideas. Thank you!

What about an outside toy, like a toy lawnmower for kids? Or a bubble machine?

We got my great nephew a water table with a little umbrella that goes with it for some shade, my kids each had one and used them for years. They sent us a picture of him using it tonight so I know that even though the age on the box is higher that a 1 year old can happily use it

My kids both loved this little plush barn filled with stuffed barn animals, each of which made the appropriate animal noise when squeezed. I was not a big fan of noisy toys but these didn't bother me. link

What about a book about diggers (dig dig digging) and some chunky construction vehicles to maneuver stuff about in the sandpit?

Duplos! We love them in our house!
Find out if the family has mega blocks for duplos already and get more of whichever they have. If they don't have something already, go with duplo. My almost 5 year old still plays with her duplos that she got when she was 1.

Thank you everyone for some good ideas. The cute push/ride toys were on sale and I am checking out all of other things mentioned. I appreciate the help.

For first birthdays, I always give the parents a gift card to a restaurant and a note that says "congratulations--you survived!".

Our son LOVES the vacuum cleaner so we got him a little Dirt Devil that makes a vacuum sound that he can turn on and off and push around. He's 15 mo old now and we got him one for his first birthday and he vacuums his little heart out, lol!

I just ordered one of those for my niece who is about 18 months old. She LOVES ours (which is a tad too big for her). I can't wait for her to have her own!

Books are always my go to for a 1 yr old. My usual suspects are Brown Bear, Brown Bear, Chica Chica Boom Boom, If you give a mouse a cookie series...

I second the sand/water table, pricey, but hours and hours of fun. Bubble lawnmower is always a hit.

We gave my grandson this for his first birthday and he LOVES it! He walks like a champ now, but he still plays with this all the time. V-Tech Walker
