I am so scared. I hate bats and had one in house Sunday night for the first time since I grew up. We had an old farm house growing up that had bats every now and then. When my parents covered the chimney with some sort of screen thing, never had one again. I woke up at 1am Sunday and had one in the house. My husband was not around. I locked myself in bathroom until I had enough nerve to escape downstairs. I drove 40 miles to my parents house to stay. The next day my father was able to capture it. Now I'm back and every little creak or sound terrifies me. I know that there probably isn't another one here but not knowing how it got in, that is the worst! I've looked all over and have a tennis racket with me now. I will have to call someone tomorrow to check out chimney and possibly put one of those screen type caps on it and inspect the home for holes of some sort.

I would be totally freaked out too! I hope you're able to sleep some. Is there a different room you could sleep in?

Maybe if you sleep w/your door closed you'll feel more secure against the bats. I don't blame you for going to your parent's house, but you're probably bat free now and can sleep soundly.

Not knowing where it entered, I might as well buck up and go upstairs. I initially found it in the upstairs hallway. There is a paned glass door at the top of the stairs I always keep shut. I will put a towel down under it since there is about an inch gap. All bedroom doors will be closed with towels down at bottom. My daughter is also away at camp now for two weeks, of course. Not much else scares me too bad. My DH is traveling for work. Just pray one doesn't return.

I hope you'll be able to get some sleep tonight. But if you can't, maybe you can watch some old episodes of Batman, and then it won't be so scary.

Ok, that would completely freak me out as well! Good idea about the towels at the bottom of the doors - that would keep anything unwanted out.
I hope sleep comes soon for you - can you take something to help you get some sleep?

I maybe could take some Melatonin. Part of me does want to be on alert in case one does surface so I can make fast tracks again. LOL! I have a good book when I head upstairs so that will also make me sleepy.

Are bats not protected species where you are? I remember as I kid being on holiday and sitting on a large eoom silently with the windows open waiting for the bat that flew in to fly out agaiin. I hope as we live in a rural issue area that we don't get bats in our loft. I hope you get some sleep and your nerves recover.

Bats are protected. He was released to go eat up more mosquitoes. I personally, don't care about the protection and if I ever muster up the courage to deal with one on my own, I might not be so careful. Just saying.....My house, my rules Got that from the thread talking about gross teenage room conditions.

Aww, I'm sorry you're scared. I hate that feeling regardless of the cause. Personally, I love bats and think they are one of earths coolest creatures. Wish I lived close, you could sleep and I'd stand guard for you.

Just saying.....My house, my rules Got that from the thread talking about gross teenage room conditions. That's the way I feel also. I have a tennis racket next to my bed and I swing away. The bat is not an invited guest. I have overcome my fear even though it still makes my heart pound and gives me major anxiety. That whole process of swatting and removing (is it alive and making noise) is what made me sick and anxious. However, we have now turned to the method of closing the dog in the bathroom and opening the back door and waiting for it to fly out. The bat is confused and doesn't want to be in our house anymore than we want it to be so this works well.
