I visited a neurologist today for my chronic migraines/cluster headaches. He added a second medication to the frova that I already take, to use when the frova isn't effective. It's a nasal spray whose name escapes me - I will be receiving it by mail so I don't have the prescription slip.
In addition, we discussed botox shots, which he says have been very effective for his patients. (7/8 see a big improvement, he said.) I'm not concerned about the shots at the back of my head or in my hairline, but some shots go into the area near your eyebrows and he said a very infrequent side effect is a (temporary) drooped eye.
So I'm debating the pros and cons. My migraines are debilitating when I get the clusters, so I truly need relief. I'm wondering if anyone has had the botox, did it help, and if you had any opinions about whether it affected your appearance.

I haven't personally but my sister gets them every three months. They have allowed her to live again. She had suffered so much with her migraines and no other medication helped or even took the edge off. She was getting at least 1-2 migraines a week. She highly recommends them to anyone who hasn't been able to find relief through other medications. She may get 1-2 headaches within the three month period between botox but nothing to the migraine level she had been dealing with for years prior to them.

My daughter just had her latest Botox injection round about 2 weeks ago. She gets them every 3 months. She had had 5 rounds and has never had a droopy eye problem. Just make sure the person you are going to really knows how to give them. If they are given in the wrong spot, it can happen. My DD gets 32 injections in the forehead, head, neck, and shoulders. Good luck with your decision!

I've been having them for 3.5 years so I think I've just had my 14th or 15th treatment. They have been life-changing for me. I was on a worldwide study initially run by Allergan (makers of Botox) so had lots of testing done before/after the 2 year trial and went from having a headache or migraine 64% of the month to now 10%. It has allowed me to exercise on a regular basis which I couldn't before and just live without waking up with a thumping head nearly every day. I've never had a droopy eyelid or any other side-effects. My neurologist has been doing this treatment protocol for nearly 10 years so is very experienced. I do have a very smooth forehead though

Yes I got them. I did that for about 9 months. I didn't notice any improvement in the number of headaches. I got my teeth fixed so it isn't as easy to grind them as it was. that has helped quite a bit but I would get migraines all the time and they have eased up quite a bit.

I haven't, I did consider it but my migraines went away after my brain tumor surgery. I know they are very popular in my Brain tumor community. Jen
