I am thinking of branching out into hybrid PL/pocket pages because I am so tired of getting kits with stuff I don't like! I took a gander at the Lilypad and there are SO MANY options! A few I really liked, like this the-lilypad.com/store/Per-Diem-cards-by-Sara-Gleason.html or this the-lilypad.com/store/Totes-Adorbs-Journal-Cards.html. For anyone out there who is more familiar with this universe of scrapbooking, can you give me some advice? Other designers that might have things I like (maybe outside of Lilypad, since I've been stalking there all day!)? Do you ever re-color your cards? Also, do you ever get the embellishments in digital form and print them yourself? How do you find non-printable embellishments (wood veneers, enamel dots, resin pieces) to match the cards you pick? Anything you think a newbie would want to know? Do you print and cut with Silhouette or just print and cut with a trimmer or send it out to be printed? I am excited about all of the new stuff that's available to me (with no wait for shipping!!!) Thanks

I totally hybrid my pocket scrapping, one big reason is the same...I hate having a bunch of cards and stuff I don't like and won't ever use. I also like that it gives me more options to take out cards or even portions of cards I'm not crazy about in Photoshop before I print them. Some of the designers I tend to like, but not necessarily everything are, Sara Gleason, Sahlln Studio, Allison Pennington, Amber LeBau, One Little Bird. The other thing I've gotten into is there monthly pocket kit. It comes with a bunch of cards, 4x6, 3x4, 4x4, a photo template, an alpha (sometimes more than one), a bunch of elements like labels, word accents, and other stuff. Then they have a additional options you can purchase, sometimes it might more cards, or accents, or papers or other alphas. While I don't like every kit I've found I like quite a few of them. Some others to check out are British Designs : www.brittishdesigns.com/shop/index.php?main_page=home(I like last year's pocket kits better than this year's kits.) There's also the Digital Press, Peppermint Creative, and Sweet Shoppe Designs - Cindy Schneider has a lot of card collections that come in grayscale that you can color yourself in PS or PS elements. So I get cards and more flat elements like labels, accent words, sticker type stuff and print them all. I used to print them at home, but lately I've been taking them to Office Depot to print. You can either use their standard 80 lb. cardstock or buy & bring your own presentation paper. The only thing is to be sure to tell them you need everything printed at full size and NOT scale to print, otherwise your cards will come out too small. :-( They usually print one or two pages for me and I take a ruler and check them and if okay have them run the rest. I cut everything myself, but i've been thinking more and more about using my Silhouette for the embellishments. If you decide to cut them yourself, if you don't already have one, I would get a good paper trimmer. Having good clean cuts and being able to cut pages quickly and easily is worth the money. For matching other embellishments, I'll take a coulee cards that represent the major colors and then go through my stash on enamel dots, washi tape or labels and just pull a bunch of anything I think will match or go good. I'm not really big on tons of embellishments (I like them, I just can't seem to use too many of them no matter how much I try.) Most times I find I have more in my stash (which is not that big)) that will coordinate or accent than I would have initially guessed. Hope this helps!

mehardy this is exactly the info I was looking for! Especially about the kits. Do you have photoshop or do you just use PDFs to print the flat things (if you do it yourself)? How do you use the alphas included in the kit? I don't have photoshop (and frankly don't have any interest in learning how to use it!). Can you show me a layout you made with the kits? I am definitely interested in those!

Glad to help!
I do have photoshop. I'm 1/2 and 1/2 on the pdfs. I usually use the 3x4 and 4x4 pdfs and sometimes the elements (it depends on how they are setup. The 4x6 on some are done 2 to a page, rather than three so you end up printing more pages. If I'm only printing a few then it's not a big deal, but if I'm printing a bunch of sheets then I lay them out in PS 3 to page to maximize my money.
As for alphas, I honestly rarely use them. Every blue moon might for a title card or something, but I'm more likely just to cut something to the specific size I need with my Silhouette. Some of the kits come with print and cut documents all ready to go for the alphas.
I have a few layouts I can probably take some photos later today. They aren't quite done, (needs journaling added and a few more embellishments.) I also sometimes might combine a kit with part of another left over one if the colors match or add a few papers here or there from like October Afternoon or Simple Stories as a supplement if coordinates well.
I'll try and take some photos later today.

I've dabbled a bit in digital this spring. I haven't printed elements. I've done digital Project Life pages using that app, or using LetterGlow and PicFrame. I then printed the whole 12x12 layout at Persnickity Prints. I've used some digital supplies from PickleberrypopI see why digital is so popular. I love being able to download what I buy immediately. I have just started a class on how to make layouts using Photoshop. I can't see abandoning paper (especially given the size of my stash), but it is tempting.

I have pretty much completely moved to hybrid pocket scrapbooking this year and I love it! Makes things so much easier and I don't hoard items anymore because I can print them all over again.
The site I usually get them from is the lilypad because of the variety they offer but I also find a lot of digital companies via instagram and etsy as well.

awesomegabi thanks! That's helpful! I'm trolling youtube for some process videos on printing/cutting/using hybrid supplies. I totally get the concept of the cards but I'd love to see some of the embellishments used! Do you have any go-tos for inspiration?

mehardy !!!! I love your cards! Thanks so much for sharing! That settles it- I'm going to make the leap to hybrid once we move and I'm settled into my new space. I was freaking out a bit about the embellishments and how I would make that work but then I realized I have print and cuts from Scraptastic (labels, tabs, little phrase bits) and I love them! This would be no different!

Also, mehardy- how do you like the gallery and inspiration that comes from the Memory Pocket Monthly club? I would definitely need a community and design team inspiration!

ellewood, I'm glad you liked the layouts, but I'm really glad I could help! For the embellishments...I think there's enough stuff included that work for paper as well as digital and there's enough other stuff floating around in my stash I can always add if I want.
This might help you too. Just recently I changed how I keep my printed kits. I got a bunch of those little Iris plastic 4x6 photo boxes and ordered some small 2x3 thick plastic bags from Joann's, along with some 4x6 bags. So in the Iris case I'm keeping all my 3x4, 4x6, and 4x4 cards I've cut apart and in the little plastic bag I'm keeping all the embellishment pieces once they are printed and cut apart. I'm also tossing in any other embellishment stuff I want to use or supplement cards. This keeps everything together until I'm ready to use it.
Right now, I've just a small posit note inside the box with the collection name & month. I'd like to find some whiteboard vinyl labels I can stick on the outside of the containers, this way I can change the labels as use kits. I'm thinking I may sendup having to order a sheet of the dryers vinyl and cut it with my Silhouette.
But once a kit is over 1/2 way used I'm basically done scrapping that month I'm moving the "leftover" to a plastic 4x6 bag. And once that starts getting thin, then my plan is put those leftovers into my regular stash.
I don't know how good of judge I am of the community...but I tried to go back and look at some of the monthly boards. Some months seem more active than others, but all of them have posts. There's a bunch of stuff in their gallery too I had never really looked at until today. Hope this all helps!
