This evening on the news I briefly caught a report that the security team at Disney reported the Orlando shooter to the FBI.
I am not asking for any top secret info ect. But is there training done for Disney employees of traits to watch for in guests?
The report mentioned facial recognition being used in the parks.
I recently saw something regarding missing children and readers on curbs for shoes too.
I'd love to hear more one either as I find this really fascinating (and wonder how many a year the parks report to the FBI ect).

I heard on the news that there are certain behaviors that the Disney security people look for - they didn't specify what exactly, but whatever he was doing at the parks must have caught their attention. I think this is fascinating, too. I have a friend who is visiting Disneyworld with her children and grandchildren this week, and it makes me worry less about their safety, too.

Many years ago I heard that if your child is abducted while at a Disney Park they will have the parents look at the closed circuit footage and they tell them to focus on the shoes of kids being *carried* out of the park. A kidnapper can change the child's clothes, hair color, etc. but usually not the shoes. That is chilling to me.

Given the volume of guests, especially children, who visit the parks daily (plus the heightened awareness in the world), I would expect security includes personnel trained to identify suspicious behaviors.

I had read or heard that it was in Downtown Disney (or Disney Springs as it's now called) and that he was observed casing the property. I think it's too soon to know whether WDW called the FBI before or after the horrific events at Pulse.

My sister-in-law used to work for Disney and she said you would be amazed at the level of security in the parks. She's somewhat of a worry-wart, so that was big coming from her.

Honestly, I never heard a thing about their security. But I do know it is one of the few places that I have ever had no fear of my kids going without me. Now that my youngest is older, he and his friends are over there all the time and beyond the worry about the drive over, I don't worry about them being in the in park or at Downtown Disney. This is more than my usual free-rangey parenting-but the knowledge that friends who DO work at the park(s) have no qualms either.

One year we where there at Animal Kingdom. There had to be something they where concerned with because they had a K-9 out and about close to the kiddie carnival area. I am a worrier at heart and stress about so many things. I think for WDW and all that includes, there is probably so much security going on that we are not aware of. I will not stay away from the parks.

The entire Disney empire is fascinating to me. Ditto. It's my understanding that Disney has some of the best security around. From metal barricade that come up from the ground, to enough under ground space and entrances to clear the park in record time, to shocking numbers of undercover security dressed as your average tourist.

Disney offers corporate "Disney Institute" training, which I took part in last year with my company. I can't speak to their security measures at all, this is more about the customer experience, and how they train their staff, but I learned some cool things (which I actually have used!) and found it pretty fascinating. AND I got mouse ears with a tassel at 'graduation.' Based on the thoroughness of the training I went through, I can only imagine that their security training is quite sophisticated.

I was in Disney last month, and while it made me incredibly sad that we had to go through security at the happiest place on earth, it has become a necessity. I didn't think the security guard was great when he was flirting with the teenage girls. Frickin check their bags and move along.

I've heard similar from a friend who knew a family whose daughter was abducted at Disney World. Within seconds of the parents panicking, Disney guards were at the parents. They got them underground or behind the scenes looking at cameras pointing everywhere. They told the parents to look at faces and shoes. Not clothing or hair. They found the girl abducted within a few minutes, but her clothes had already been changed and her head had been SHAVED. She was almost out of the park when they found her. Chilling isn't the word.

They say kidnappers will leave the park when a lot of other people are leaving. They will have drugged the child and carry him/her *sleeping* on their shoulder because it looks so natural ~ a sleepy kid at the end of a day at Disney. They will also sometimes cloth the child in something from the opposite sex. ETA: I'm glad your story had a happy ending.

Let me just say that I am now terrified at how many children must be attempted to be kidnapped there. Comforted that security is obviously state of the art, but terrified none the less. We shouldn't have a pea connection to a family that went through that. I don't have statistics but given the number of people that visit Disney, I would think your child would be safer there than many other places.
